PA UC RESEA appointment Monday - confused about job search proof requirements
I've got my RESEA appointment with PA unemployment coming up on Monday and I'm really stressed out about what to bring. I've been actively job searching and applying for positions through Indeed, LinkedIn, and company websites, but I haven't been using PA CareerLink at all (honestly never get responses through there). The appointment notice was super vague about what documentation they need. Do I need to upload proof of my job applications somewhere before the appointment? Or bring printed copies? What exactly do they want to see as proof that I've been meeting the work search requirements? Anyone been through this recently? This whole RESEA thing has me really anxious.

I had my RESEA appointment back in January. Bring printed copies of all your job applications - they want to see that you've been doing at least 3 work search activities per week. Each application counts as one activity. They'll want to see company names, positions, dates you applied, and any confirmation emails you received. They're checking that you're meeting the PA UC work search requirements. Also bring your resume for them to review. They'll likely want to create a CareerLink account for you during the appointment if you don't already have one.

•Thanks! That helps. So they won't care that I didn't use CareerLink specifically as long as I can show I did the required activities each week? I've definitely done way more than 3 per week but wasn't keeping detailed records... I'm scrambling to piece together proof now.

THESE APPOINTMENTS ARE SUCH BS!!! i went to mine last month and the lady was RUDE and acted like i wasn't trying hard enough even though i showed her 20+ applications!!! waste of time and they just want to find a reason to cut your benefits. make sure you have EVERYTHING documented or they'll try to disqualify you. the whole PA UC system is designed to make you fail!!!!!

•Same experience! My interviewer kept saying my job searches weren't "suitable employment" whatever that means. I've applied to like 40 places but apparently that wasn't good enough?? Ended up having to sign up for some stupid workshop too.

•That's good to hear. Did they make you register for CareerLink during the appointment? I'm hoping it's as simple as yours was.

When I went to my RESEA they wanted me to show them any job search activities I had done. I also got confused because I thought I had to have applications on CareerLink too, but the interviewer told me that any job search activities count - not just CareerLink ones. Just make sure you have at least 3 each week!

•This is absolutely correct. PA UC requires claimants to complete at least 3 work search activities per week, but they don't have to be through CareerLink. Activities include submitting applications, attending job fairs, posting resumes online, taking job skill tests, or creating profiles on job search sites. Document everything with dates, company names, and methods of contact. For the RESEA appointment, they're verifying compliance with work search requirements and offering additional resources to help with your job search.

I remember my RESEA appointment last year, completely stressed about it too! Found out later I could have used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to call PA UC beforehand and ask exactly what documentation I needed. They got me through to an actual person in about 15 minutes when I'd been trying for days. Check out their demo: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 - might help clear up your confusion before Monday. Better to be prepared than get flagged for non-compliance!

When I had my RESEA appt they told me I had to register for CareerLink but they actually helped me do it during the appointment. I was sooo confused before I went in and had a bunch of Indeed screenshots but they were actually pretty understanding. Just make sure you show that you're actively looking for jobs. They also wanted to see my resume to help "improve" it lol. But yeah bring any job search proof you have and you should be fine.

•Thanks for sharing your experience! That makes me feel a bit better. I actually do have a decent resume ready to go, so that part should be fine. Just wasn't sure about the proof of job searches.

One more thing about RESEA appointments that nobody mentioned yet - they'll likely give you a deadline to complete additional activities after the appointment, like attending workshops or applying to specific jobs they recommend. Make sure you meet those deadlines or your benefits could be affected. Also, they'll probably schedule a follow-up RESEA appointment, so be prepared for that too.

•OMG YES they made me attend this stupid 3 hour zoom "workshop" that was just reading powerpoint slides! COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME when I could've been applying to actual jobs!!! The PA UC system just wants to CONTROL us and make collecting benefits as DIFFICULT as possible!!!!

After your RESEA appointment, I recommend keeping a weekly work search log going forward. The PA Department of Labor & Industry provides a form you can use: https://www.uc.pa.gov/Documents/UC_Forms/UC-304.pdf. Record all activities with dates, employer information, position details, and application method. This helps you stay compliant with PA UC requirements and makes it easier if you're selected for future work search reviews. For your current appointment, organize whatever documentation you have - email confirmations, screenshots of submitted applications, and a list of positions you've applied for will be helpful.

•That form is exactly what I needed! Thank you for sharing the link. I'll start using this immediately after my appointment. I've been keeping a spreadsheet of where I've applied but this form seems more official.

•Good point! I'll make sure to bring my ID. Is there anything else I should bring besides ID and job search documentation?

To answer your last question - also bring your UC claim information (your claim confirmation or recent benefit payment info), contact information for your most recent employer, and your Social Security number. If your RESEA is virtual, have all these documents scanned and ready to share. If it's in-person, bring physical copies of everything.

•Mine is in-person at the CareerLink office. I'll make sure to bring all of this documentation with me. Feeling much more prepared now thanks to everyone's advice!

Just wanted to add that you should also bring a pen or pencil with you to the appointment! They had me fill out some forms during my RESEA meeting and I almost forgot to bring something to write with. Also, if you're going to an in-person appointment, plan to arrive about 15 minutes early - the CareerLink offices can be busy and you might need to check in at a front desk first. Good luck with your appointment on Monday, sounds like you'll be well prepared with everyone's great advice here!

•Great tip about bringing a pen! I would have definitely forgotten that. And good point about arriving early - I was just planning to show up right on time. This whole thread has been incredibly helpful for easing my anxiety about Monday's appointment. I feel like I actually know what to expect now instead of going in completely blind. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences!

Just went through my RESEA appointment last week and wanted to share what worked for me! I created a simple spreadsheet with columns for: Date Applied, Company Name, Position Title, Method (Indeed/LinkedIn/Company Website), and Status. Printed it out and they were totally fine with it. The interviewer was actually pretty nice and said they just need to see you're making a good faith effort to find work. She did have me set up a CareerLink profile during the appointment but explained it was just to access additional resources, not because my other job search methods weren't valid. The whole thing took about 45 minutes. You sound like you're doing everything right - just organize what you have and you'll be fine!

•That spreadsheet format is perfect! I'm definitely going to set something like that up this weekend before my Monday appointment. It's so reassuring to hear that the interviewer was understanding and that they recognize other job search methods as valid. I was getting really worried that not using CareerLink would be a problem, but it sounds like as long as you can show you're actively searching, they're reasonable about it. Thanks for sharing such a recent experience - this gives me a lot more confidence going into Monday!

One thing that really helped me during my RESEA appointment was having email confirmations from job applications organized by week. I printed out the confirmation emails I got from Indeed and company career portals, and the interviewer appreciated seeing those timestamps to verify I was meeting the 3 activities per week requirement. Don't stress too much - they really just want to see that you're actively looking. My appointment ended up being more like a coaching session where they gave me tips on improving my job search strategy. The CareerLink registration they had me do took maybe 10 minutes and wasn't a big deal. You've got this!

•This is such helpful advice! I never thought about organizing the email confirmations by week - that's a really smart way to show you're meeting the weekly requirements. I have a bunch of confirmation emails saved but they're all mixed up in my inbox. I'm going to spend this weekend sorting through them and organizing everything chronologically. It's really reassuring to hear that your appointment turned out to be more like coaching rather than an interrogation. I was imagining the worst case scenario but everyone's experiences here sound much more reasonable than I was expecting. Thanks for the encouragement!

I just had my RESEA appointment two weeks ago and was in the exact same boat as you - super anxious and not sure what to bring! Here's what I learned: they really just want to see that you're actively job searching and meeting the 3 activities per week requirement. I brought printouts of my Indeed application history, some LinkedIn job application confirmations, and a few screenshots of company website applications. The interviewer was actually pretty understanding and said they see people all the time who don't use CareerLink - it's totally fine as long as you can show you're making an effort. They did have me create a CareerLink profile during the appointment but it was quick and painless. The whole thing took about 40 minutes and was way less stressful than I expected. Just bring whatever documentation you have of your job search activities and you'll be fine! Don't overthink it.

•This is exactly what I needed to hear! I've been spiraling with anxiety all week thinking they were going to grill me about not using CareerLink. It's such a relief to know that other job search methods are acceptable and that the interviewers are generally understanding. I have screenshots and confirmation emails from Indeed and LinkedIn saved, so I'll get those organized this weekend. The fact that creating the CareerLink profile during the appointment was quick and painless is great to know too. I was worried they'd expect me to have it set up beforehand. Thanks for sharing your recent experience - knowing it was way less stressful than expected really helps calm my nerves about Monday!

I went through my RESEA appointment about 6 months ago and had the same exact anxiety you're having right now! I was doing all my job searching through Indeed and company websites too, never touched CareerLink. Here's what I wish someone had told me: bring a notebook or folder with printed copies of your job applications organized by date. Include company names, position titles, dates applied, and any confirmation emails you received. They asked me to show proof of at least 3 work search activities per week, which can be applications, uploading your resume to job sites, attending virtual job fairs, or even researching companies. The interviewer was actually really helpful and spent time going over my resume with me to suggest improvements. They did set up my CareerLink profile during the appointment but explained it was just to give me access to additional resources. The whole thing took about an hour and wasn't nearly as scary as I thought it would be. You're clearly putting in effort with your job search, so just organize what you have and you'll do great on Monday!

•Thank you so much for this detailed breakdown! It's incredibly helpful to hear from someone who went through the exact same situation I'm in now. I've been doing all my job searching through Indeed and company websites too, so knowing that worked for you gives me a lot of confidence. I love the idea of organizing everything in a notebook by date - that sounds much more professional than the random screenshots I have scattered around. The fact that they actually helped improve your resume and were supportive rather than adversarial is such a relief to hear. I was imagining them trying to catch me doing something wrong, but it sounds like they're genuinely there to help. I'm going to spend this weekend getting everything organized the way you described. Thanks for taking the time to share such a thorough account of your experience!

I had my RESEA appointment about 3 weeks ago and was in the exact same situation! I'd been using Indeed and LinkedIn exclusively and was panicking about not having CareerLink documentation. Here's what actually happened: I brought a simple folder with printed screenshots of my job applications from Indeed (showing the "applied" status), some email confirmations from company websites, and a basic list I made with company names, positions, and dates. The interviewer was totally fine with it and said they just need to see you're doing at least 3 work search activities per week from any legitimate source. She actually complimented me on being thorough with my documentation! They did help me set up CareerLink during the appointment, but it was optional and took maybe 5 minutes. The whole thing was way more supportive than I expected - she even gave me tips on tailoring my resume for specific industries. Don't stress too much, you're clearly putting in the work and that's what they want to see!

•This is so reassuring to hear! I've been doing exactly what you described - using Indeed and LinkedIn primarily - and was really worried about showing up empty-handed. Your folder organization idea is perfect and sounds much more professional than what I was planning. It's such a relief to know that they actually complimented your documentation and were supportive rather than trying to find problems. The fact that the CareerLink setup was optional and only took 5 minutes is great news too. I was stressing about having to spend a bunch of time on that during the appointment. Thanks for sharing such a recent and positive experience - it really helps ease my anxiety about Monday!
