PA UC Money Network card suddenly blocked at store - weekend access issues?

Super frustrated right now!! Just tried using my PA UC Money Network card at Dollar General this morning (8am Saturday) and the cashier said my card was BLOCKED. This is embarrassing as hell with a line of people behind me! Card worked perfectly fine YESTERDAY so what gives?? I've got groceries I need to buy this weekend and now I'm stuck with no access to my benefits. Has the PA unemployment system messed something up on weekend maintenance or something? Anyone else having their Money Network card declined today? And weird side question - why can I only post as anonymous on the unemployment portal? Can't even ask questions under my actual username there.

I had something similar happen about two months ago. The Money Network cards sometimes get temporarily blocked if there's any suspicious activity (even when there isn't any). You need to call the number on the back of your card right away. They have 24/7 support even on weekends. It's usually just a security measure and they can unblock it within minutes after verifying your identity.

Thanks for replying so quick! Ugh I hate calling these customer service lines on weekends. Do you know if they'll ask me a bunch of personal info? I don't have all my paperwork with me right now since I'm out running errands.

Good idea, there's an ATM nearby. I'll try that before calling customer service. Thanks!

This is a common issue with the Money Network cards tied to PA UC benefits. There are several things that might have triggered the block: 1. Multiple failed PIN attempts (even if you don't remember making them) 2. Using the card at a new merchant location that triggered fraud detection 3. Weekend system maintenance (though they usually don't block cards during this) 4. Reaching your daily transaction limit Definitely call the Money Network customer service number on the back of your card. They can verify your identity and usually unblock the card immediately. You'll need to confirm some recent transactions and possibly answer security questions, but you shouldn't need any paperwork for this process. As for posting anonymously on the portal - that's by design. The PA UC portal anonymizes all posts for privacy protection since unemployment questions often contain sensitive financial information.

Wow, thanks for all that info! I just tried the ATM like the other person suggested and it said 'card not authorized' so definitely blocked. Calling the number now. And thanks for explaining the anonymous posting thing - makes sense but was confusing me.

This exact same thing happened to me last month!!! The Money Network cards are GARBAGE. I spent 2 HOURS on hold trying to get through to someone. The PA unemployment system just keeps finding new ways to make our lives difficult - first they take forever to approve claims, then they make us jump through hoops to verify identity, and now they block our cards randomly when we need to buy food!! When I finally got through, they said it was a "security measure" but couldn't explain why it happened when I'd been using the card normally. So frustrating!!

same. their whole system is designed to make it hard to get benefits we earned imo

I've been dealing with PA unemployment for 3 years now (on and off) and had this card issue a couple of times. If you're having trouble getting through to Money Network customer service, which is common on weekends, I'd recommend trying Claimyr to reach them faster. I used it at claimyr.com after spending days trying to get through about a blocked card situation. They have a video demo that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 Basically, it helped me bypass the hold times and actually talk to someone who could unblock my card. Especially useful on weekends when everyone's trying to call at once.

Does that actually work? I've seen people mention it before but wasn't sure if it was legit or not.

It worked for me twice now. Better than sitting on hold for hours or having to wait until Monday when you need your groceries today. Customer service can usually solve the blocked card issue in minutes once you actually get through to them.

Update: FINALLY got through to Money Network! Was on hold for 45 min but the rep was actually helpful. Turns out my card got flagged because I made a large purchase yesterday and then tried using it at a store I've never used before today. They call it "unusual pattern" or something. They verified my identity and unblocked it right away. For anyone else who has this happen - definitely call the number on the back of your card asap. They asked for my SSN (last 4 digits), birthdate, and to confirm my last transaction amount. Card is working again now! Thanks everyone for your help!

Glad you got it resolved! Still ridiculous they put us through this stress on weekends when we're just trying to live our lives. But at least you can get your groceries now!

Thanks for updating us! For future reference, you can also set up text alerts for your Money Network card through their website or app. This way you'll get notified immediately if there are any security blocks or issues with your card. It can save you from finding out at the register next time.

This is kinda off topic but does anyone know when they load the cards each week? I just started getting PA unemployment and my first payment was supposed to be today but nothing's there yet. Is it always late on weekends or should I be worried?

Payments typically process on business days, so if your payment was supposed to arrive today (Saturday), it will likely show up on Monday. The first payment often takes longer than subsequent ones. If it doesn't show up by Tuesday, then I'd contact PA UC to check on it.
