PA CareerLink showing zero job results - is this affecting my UC work search requirements?

Has anyone else noticed that PA CareerLink is completely broken today? I'm trying to complete my weekly work search activities for my unemployment claim, but when I search for jobs - literally ANY jobs - nothing is showing up at all. I've tried different keywords, removed all filters, even tried different browsers and still see ZERO results. This is making me panic because I need to report my work search activities when I file my weekly claim tomorrow. Will UC penalize me if the system is down and I can't complete the required activities? Anyone else experiencing this or know what's going on?

Yeah, I noticed this too. The CareerLink system has been glitchy since they did that update last week. For your work search activities, remember you don't HAVE to use CareerLink - you can also count applying directly on employer websites, going to job fairs, submitting resumes to staffing agencies, etc. Just keep documentation of whatever you do. The PA UC rules require 'work search activities' but don't specify they must be through CareerLink.

Oh thank god. I was freaking out thinking I'd get my benefits denied. So if I apply to jobs directly through company websites today, that'll count? Do I need to take screenshots as proof?

This happens every few months with CareerLink. Their system is TRASH. I bet they're doing another one of their so-called "upgrades" that breaks everything for a week. Meanwhile WE'RE the ones who suffer when we can't meet their precious requirements. Just wait until they send you a disqualification notice for "failing to search for work" even though THEIR system was down!!! 🤬

That's exactly what I'm worried about! Has anyone actually been disqualified because of CareerLink issues before?

I'm having the same issue but found a workaround - try using the mobile app instead of the website. For some reason the app is still showing job listings when the website shows nothing. Also, as someone mentioned, you have multiple options for work search activities: 1. Applying for jobs through employer websites 2. Attending job fairs (virtual or in-person) 3. Creating profiles on job boards like Indeed or Monster 4. Taking a civil service test 5. Registering with a staffing agency Just document everything you do (dates, company names, positions) so you can report it during your weekly certification. The UC system doesn't automatically check CareerLink for compliance - you self-report your activities and only need to provide documentation if they audit you.

When this happened to me last month, I couldn't reach anyone at CareerLink for help. I ended up using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an actual person at the UC service center. They confirmed that system issues with CareerLink wouldn't count against my work search requirements as long as I was making good faith efforts through other channels. You can see how it works in this video: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 - saved me hours of busy signals and got definitive answers about how to handle the CareerLink problems.

This is really helpful, thank you! Did they tell you how long you should expect the CareerLink system to be down? I'm wondering if I should just start using other job sites permanently.

off topic but does anyone know if they track IP addresses on careelink? my cousin is using my wifi and we both have UC claims

That's fine. Multiple people in the same household can have UC claims and use the same internet connection. They track account logins, not IP addresses for verification purposes.

Try clearing your cache and cookies. Sometimes that fixes it. CareerLink was working fine for me yesterday afternoon.

Just tried clearing cache and cookies, still nothing showing up. Glad it's not just me though.

UPDATE: Just called PA CareerLink (not UC). They said they're experiencing a database sync issue that's causing search results to disappear. Should be fixed within 48 hours. The rep confirmed that if you document your work search activities through other methods during this time, it won't affect your UC benefits eligibility. Just keep detailed records of what you do and be prepared to explain if questioned.

Sure, "48 hours" 🙄 I bet it'll be a week minimum. And watch them not announce it anywhere officially so people keep panicking.

Thank you so much for calling and letting us know! I'll just use Indeed and LinkedIn until it's fixed and keep screenshots of everything. This group has been SO helpful!

I've been dealing with this same issue since Monday! What's really frustrating is that PA CareerLink doesn't even have a status page or announcement about the outage - you'd think they'd at least post something on their homepage. I've been using Indeed and ZipRecruiter instead and keeping detailed logs with timestamps, company names, and job titles. One tip: if you're documenting work search activities outside of CareerLink, make sure to note the METHOD you used (direct application, email, online portal, etc.) since that's what they sometimes ask for during audits. Also screenshot or save the job posting URLs if possible - I learned this the hard way during my last claim period.
