Where is the nearest unemployment office to me for NYS Department of Labor services?
I need to visit a NYS Department of Labor office in person but I'm not sure where the closest one is located. I've been trying to handle everything online through my.ny.gov but there's an issue with my identity verification that they say requires an in-person visit. Does anyone know how to find the nearest unemployment office? I'm in the Hudson Valley area if that helps. Also wondering if I need to make an appointment or if they take walk-ins?

You can find all NYS Department of Labor office locations on their website under the 'Find a Career Center' section. Most offices require appointments now, especially for ID verification issues. I'd recommend calling ahead because some locations have limited hours for unemployment services.

•Thanks! I'll check their website. Do you know if they're still doing the reduced hours thing or are they back to normal?

•Two weeks for an appointment? Wow that's a long wait. Did you have to bring specific documents with you?

Before you make the trip, you might want to try calling the main NYS Department of Labor line first. Sometimes they can resolve identity verification issues over the phone if you have the right documentation. I know getting through can be frustrating with their high call volume, but there's actually a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helps people get connected to NYS Department of Labor agents faster. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Might save you the trip if they can handle it remotely.

•Never heard of that service before. Is it legit? I'm always skeptical of third-party services for government stuff.

•Yeah it's legitimate, they just help you get through the phone queue faster. I used it when I had an adjudication issue and actually got connected to someone within an hour instead of waiting on hold for hours.

The whole system is such a mess honestly. Why can't they just have better online verification like every other government agency has figured out by now? Making people drive to offices for basic ID verification in 2025 is ridiculous.

•agree 100% - it's like they're stuck in the stone age while every bank and credit card company can verify identity instantly online
