When does NY unemployment deposit hit PayPal accounts after switching from Chime?
I just switched my unemployment direct deposit from Chime to PayPal last week. With Chime, I always got my benefits between 6-7pm on Mondays like clockwork. Been using Chime for months but decided to switch for some better features on PayPal. Anyone know when PayPal typically makes NY unemployment funds available? Is it faster or slower than Chime? This is my first week expecting it in the new account and I'm getting anxious since I have bills due tomorrow.

I use paypal for my benefits. Usually hits around 4:30pm on mondays for me. Sometimes as early as 2pm. Definitely earlier than when I was using my bank account before.

•This is super helpful, thank you! It's almost 3pm now and nothing yet but I'll keep an eye out. Do you get a notification when it hits?

•Yep I get a notification from the paypal app. Just make sure your notifications are turned on. It might vary tho since its your first time using paypal for this.

•Wait you get yours at 2 sometimes? Mine never hits before 5 with paypal 🤔 wonder if it depends on your region in NY

After fighting with the ny unemployment system for WEEKS about changing my payment method, I finally found this app called Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got a callback with a live agent who fixed it immediately. Got my deposit in PayPal the next day around noon! Talking to an agent got my $ unlocked so fast. Check this out for more info: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•Does this actually work? Seems kinda sus tbh

•Yeah it actually does. I was skeptical too but I had been trying to reach someone for almost 3 weeks. The callback came in about 45 mins and the agent fixed my issue right away. My payments had been pending for weeks and suddenly hit my account the next day.

•yeah right, another 'miracle solution'... what's the catch? 🙄

•No catch - it just saves you from waiting on hold forever. I spent hours trying to get through before finding this. It was the only way I could talk to a live agent.

•I'm curious - how fast did they call you back? The hold times with unemployment are ridiculous lately

•For me it was about 45 mins. My friend used it last week and got a callback in like 30 mins. Way better than spending all day on hold yourself.

Mine hits PayPal Tuesday mornings around 9am. Used to get it Monday afternoons with my credit union. I think PayPal holds it a bit longer than some banks.

It really depends on how PayPal processes ACH transfers. With my experience, first payment to a new account sometimes takes a day longer than usual while they verify everything. After that it should be consistent. My paypal deposits come in around 5:30pm on Mondays.

•That makes sense about the first payment taking longer. I'll give it until tomorrow morning before I start panicking lol

•Yeah dont worry yet. First time I switched payment methods I was stressing too but it showed up eventually.

Here's what I've noticed with different deposit methods for NY unemployment: Chime: Usually Monday 4-6pm PayPal: Usually Monday 3-5pm or sometimes Tuesday morning Traditional banks: Tuesday or Wednesday Cash App: Monday afternoon PayPal is generally pretty quick but can sometimes hold the first deposit a bit longer for security. Don't panic if it doesn't come today - it'll probably hit overnight or tomorrow morning. If it doesn't show by Wednesday, then you should start trying to contact someone at unemployment (good luck with that though lol).

•This is super accurate based on my experience too. PayPal is usually Tuesday mornings for me.

Am I the only one who's constantly switching payment methods because the NY unemployment system is such a disaster? I swear every few months something goes wrong and I have to change where my money goes 🤡

•SAME! I've used 3 different accounts this year alone. The whole system is held together with duct tape and prayers at this point.

•Yup! Had to switch twice because payments randomly stopped for no reason. Called and they said changing payment method sometimes "resets" the system 🙄

•Glad it's not just me! The rep I talked to literally suggested I switch payment methods as a "troubleshooting step" which is absurd

Just a heads up from someone who's been through this - if your payment doesn't show up in PayPal within 48 hours of your usual deposit time, CALL IMMEDIATELY. Don't wait. The system sometimes flags new payment methods as suspicious and puts a hold on your benefits. Happened to me and I had to wait 3 weeks to get it sorted because I didn't call right away.

•Oh no that sounds like a nightmare. If it doesn't come by Wednesday I'll definitely call. Any tips on actually getting through to someone?

•Honestly the only way I got through was using claimyr.com - they call and wait on hold for you then connect you when a rep picks up. Otherwise you're looking at calling 50+ times just to get in the hold queue.

•I've had luck calling right when they open at 8am. Still waited 45 mins but at least got through.

When I switched to PayPal last year it took TWO DAYS LONGER than normal the first time, then went back to the regular schedule after that. DON'T PANIC YET!!!

PayPal is weird with government deposits. Sometimes super fast, sometimes they hold it for a day. My friend gets her benefits at midnight Monday, I get mine Tuesday afternoon, both using PayPal. Makes no sense.

•This is so true! I think it has something to do with when your claim was originally filed or something. The system is not consistent at all.

I have a detailed guide to NY unemployment deposits timing based on my experience and research. These are approximate times based on feedback from dozens of users: Big national banks (Chase, BoA): Tuesday afternoons typically Regional banks (TD, KeyBank, etc): Tuesday mid-day Credit unions: Can vary widely - Monday night to Wednesday morning Online banks (Chime, Current, Varo): Monday 4pm-8pm PayPal: Most commonly Monday 5pm to Tuesday 10am Cash App: Monday afternoon to evening NetSpend/prepaid cards: Usually Tuesday morning Direct Express: Tuesday or Wednesday The NY system actually sends the payments in batches starting Sunday night, but each financial institution processes them differently. PayPal tends to be in the middle of the pack - not the fastest but not the slowest. When you switch payment methods, it's normal for the first payment to take up to 24 hours longer than it will normally. If you're having trouble reaching unemployment to check on payment status, I highly recommend using claimyr.com - they'll wait on hold and connect you with a live agent. It's the only reliable way to get through these days with all the call volume.

•Just used claimyr today after seeing this comment. Got through in 35 mins when I'd been trying for DAYS on my own. The agent was able to see that my payment was actually processing normally and should hit PayPal tomorrow. Such relief!

I've been on UI for 6 months and switched between 3 different payment methods. heres what I found: bank account: Wednesday morning usually chime: Monday evenings paypal: usually Tuesday mornings but sometimes Monday nights the frustrating thing is it changes sometimes for no reason at all. one week it'll come Tuesday at 8am, next week Monday at 7pm. the unemployment office told me they send all payments at the same time and its up to the financial institutions when they post it.

has anyone actually had missing payments when switching payment methods? I'm about to switch to paypal too and these comments got me nervous 😬

•I switched from a regular bank to PayPal last month and the first payment was about 18 hours later than normal, but since then it's been consistent. No missing payments.

•I did have a payment go missing when I switched but found out later it was because I had entered my account number wrong 🤦♂️ Double check your info and you should be fine

•I had a payment delayed by a week when switching. Had to call and they had to manually release it. Used claimyr.com to reach someone quickly instead of calling for hours.

Why would you switch from Chime to PayPal anyway? Chime is way more reliable for government deposits in my experience. PayPal always feels like they're holding my money hostage lol

•I had some issues with Chime flagging my account for "suspicious activity" twice when there wasn't any. Their customer service was terrible about it too. Also needed the PayPal debit card features for some online purchases.

•Ah that makes sense. Chime can be weird about that stuff. Hope your PayPal deposit comes through soon!

Anyone know if you can split your unemployment deposit between different accounts? I want some to go to my bank and some to PayPal.

PaulineW
•NY unemployment doesn't offer split deposits unfortunately. You'd have to set up automatic transfers after receiving the full amount in one account.

Just wanted to give an update - my PayPal deposit came through this morning around 8:30am! So it was about 14 hours later than my usual Chime timing, but not too bad for the first payment to a new account. Thanks everyone for the reassurance and info, this thread was super helpful when I was stressing yesterday. For anyone else switching to PayPal, seems like Tuesday morning is pretty common based on what people shared here.

•That's great to hear! I'm actually considering switching from my regular bank to PayPal for unemployment deposits since Tuesday mornings sound way more predictable than the random Wednesday/Thursday timing I get now. Did you notice if PayPal sends you a notification right when it hits your account?
0 coins
Eli Butler
•Yes! PayPal sent me a push notification as soon as it hit, plus an email. The notification was actually faster than when I check the app manually. Definitely recommend turning on notifications if you switch - takes away some of the anxiety of wondering when it'll come through.

I've been using PayPal for NY unemployment for about 6 months now and it's pretty consistent. Usually get mine between 6-8am on Tuesday mornings, but like others mentioned, the first deposit to a new account can be delayed. PayPal seems to do some extra verification on the first government deposit which can add 12-24 hours. After that it should settle into a regular pattern. One tip - make sure your PayPal account is fully verified (bank account linked, identity confirmed, etc.) before the deposit comes through, otherwise they might hold it longer for security reasons.

•This is really helpful advice about the verification! I just switched to PayPal last week too and was worried when my deposit didn't come at the usual time yesterday. My PayPal account is fully verified so hopefully it'll hit today or tomorrow morning like you mentioned. Thanks for sharing your experience - 6 months of consistent Tuesday morning deposits sounds way better than the chaos I was dealing with at my old bank.

•Really good point about the verification! I learned this the hard way when I first started using PayPal for direct deposits from my employer - they held my first payment for 3 days until I completed identity verification. Definitely get all that sorted before your deposit is supposed to come through. Also, just to add - I've noticed PayPal's deposit timing can vary slightly during holiday weeks or if there are banking delays, but it's still more predictable than most traditional banks I've used for unemployment.

•Thanks for the detailed info about PayPal verification! I'm actually thinking of switching from Chime myself since I keep seeing people say PayPal is more reliable. Quick question - do you know if PayPal charges any fees for receiving unemployment deposits? I know some prepaid cards do but wasn't sure about PayPal.
