What time can you certify for unemployment benefits in NYS?
Quick question - does anyone know what time the NYS Department of Labor system opens up for weekly certifications? I always wait until Sunday but I'm not sure if there's a specific time when the system becomes available. I tried logging in around 6am this morning but couldn't get through to my.ny.gov. Is there a better time to certify without running into technical issues?

The NYS Department of Labor weekly certification system is typically available starting at 6:00 AM on Sunday and runs through 7:30 PM on the following Saturday. However, I've found that Sunday mornings between 6-8 AM can be really slow due to high traffic. Try certifying on Monday or Tuesday mornings instead - much faster.

•Thanks! I had no idea it was available all week. I thought you could only do it on Sundays for some reason.

ugh the whole system is such a mess, doesn't matter what time you try to get on, it's always crashing or giving error messages

If you're having trouble getting through on my.ny.gov, you can also call the NYS Department of Labor Tele-Cert line at 888-581-5812. It's available the same hours as the online system. I actually prefer the phone system - it's usually more reliable than the website.

•Wait, you can certify by phone? I've been struggling with the website for months and getting so frustrated when it times out. Does the phone system ask the same questions?

•Yes, exact same questions about your work search activities and any income you earned that week. You'll need your PIN though, so make sure you have that ready.

I had major issues reaching anyone at NYS Department of Labor when my certification got stuck in the system. Tried calling for weeks with no luck. Finally used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to an actual agent in like 20 minutes. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows exactly how it works. Really saved me a lot of headaches.

•Interesting, never heard of that before. Did they actually help resolve your certification issue or just get you connected to someone?

•They got me connected and the NYS Department of Labor agent was able to fix the problem on the spot. My weekly claim had been stuck for almost 3 weeks.

I always certify on Wednesday afternoons around 2-3pm and never have any problems. Most people probably do it on weekends so weekdays are way better

I usually certify on Tuesday evenings around 7-8pm and it's been pretty smooth. The system seems less congested then compared to Sunday mornings. One tip I learned is to have all your work search information ready beforehand - employer names, contact info, dates you applied, etc. It makes the whole process much faster and reduces the chance of timing out while you're looking up information.

•That's a great tip about having all the work search info ready beforehand! I learned that the hard way after getting kicked out of the system twice while scrambling to find employer contact details. Now I keep a spreadsheet with all my applications so I can just reference it quickly during certification.
