What does progress mean for unemployment claim status on NYS Department of Labor website?

I've been checking my claim status on the NYS Department of Labor website every day and it just says 'in progress' for the past two weeks. I filed my initial claim and have been doing my weekly certifications but I have no idea what this actually means. Does 'in progress' mean they're reviewing my claim? Is there something I need to do? I'm starting to panic because I haven't received any payments yet and my bills are piling up. Has anyone else seen this status and can explain what it actually means?

In' progress typically means your claim is in adjudication. The NYS Department of Labor is reviewing your eligibility, work history, or reason for separation. This can take anywhere from 2-6 weeks depending on the complexity. Check if you have any pending issues in your online account that needdocumentation.

I checked and don't see any pending issues or requests for documents. Should I be worried that it's taking this long?

Same thing happened to me last month! 'In progress' drove me crazy because it's so vague. Mine stayed like that for 3 weeks then suddenly switched to approved. The wait is brutal but try to be patient. Keep filing your weekly claims even while it shows in progress.

Thanks that's reassuring to hear! I'll keep doing my weekly certifications. Did you ever get an explanation for the delay?

Nope, never got a clear explanation. The NYS Department of Labor just said they had to verify my employment history. Once approved though, I got all the back payments.

if you need to actually talk to someone at NYS Department of Labor about your claim status, i had luck using this service called claimyr.com - they get you through to an actual agent instead of waiting on hold forever. there's a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. saved me hours of frustration trying to get through on my own

Did they charge you for that? Sounds too good to be true...

yeah there's a fee but honestly worth it when you're stressed about your claim being stuck. beats calling 100 times and getting hung up on

THE SYSTEM IS BROKEN!!! 'In progress' is just their way of saying 'we'll get to you when we feel like it.' I've been waiting 5 weeks for my claim to move past this stupid status. Meanwhile they expect us to jump through hoops with job searches and weekly certifications while they take their sweet time.

I feel your frustration but getting angry won't speed up the process. The adjudication really does take time, especially if there are complications with your case.

yeah mine said in progress too but then i got a letter in the mail asking for more info about why i left my job. check your mail and also look for any messages in your online account, sometimes they request stuff and you don't notice
