New York Unemployment virtual meeting no-show - what are my options?

Had a scheduled virtual unemployment meeting today but nobody from the unemployment office showed up. Been waiting over an hour. Not sure what to do next since I can't afford to miss these meetings. Anyone else deal with this?

Same thing happened to me last week! I waited for 2 hours like a clown 🤡 Screenshot everything and document the date/time. Call them first thing tomorrow morning

good luck getting through on the phone lol been trying for 3 days straight

fr fr its impossible to get anyone on the line these days smh

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone finally. Used this service called claimyr.com that calls and waits on hold, then connects you when someone picks up. Costs $20 but honestly worth it cause I finally got through. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

sounds kinda sketch ngl. did it actually work?

0 coins

yeah fr it worked. took like 45 mins but better than me calling all day

20 bucks tho? 😤 unemployment should do better

0 coins

trust me after calling for 2 weeks straight $20 was worth my sanity 💯

This is actually a common issue rn. You need to: 1) Email them at NYSDOL@labor.ny.gov with screenshots 2) Try to reschedule through your online portal 3) Keep all documentation of the missed meeting. Sometimes their system glitches and doesn't notify the agents.

thanks! just sent the email. how long did it take them to respond to you?

0 coins

took about 3 business days for me

your supposed to get an email if they cancel... check your spam folder maybe?

They're so understaffed its ridiculous. My friend works there and says theyre running on half the normal staff rn

that explains alot tbh but still not an excuse to leave us hanging

This is so frustrating! I had a similar experience last month - waited for over an hour and nobody showed. What worked for me was immediately filing a complaint through the NY DOL website under "Contact Us" and selecting "Technical Issues." They actually responded within 24 hours and rescheduled me. Also make sure to screenshot your confirmation email and the meeting link showing you were there on time. That documentation saved me when they tried to say I was a no-show initially.

@Carlos Mendoza thank you so much for the detailed advice! Just filed the complaint through the technical issues section like you suggested. Really helpful to know they responded quickly for you - gives me some hope. Did they reschedule you for the same week or push it out further?

0 coins

@Carlos Mendoza this is exactly what I needed to hear! Just screenshot everything and filing that complaint now. So relieved to know there s'actually a way to get this resolved quickly. The anxiety of thinking I might lose benefits over their technical glitch was killing me 😰

Ugh this is happening way too often lately! I had the exact same thing happen two weeks ago - sat there for over an hour like an idiot waiting for someone who never showed up. What I did was immediately take screenshots of everything (the meeting link, the time, my confirmation email) and then called the main DOL number. Took forever to get through but they were able to see on their end that the agent was a no-show and rescheduled me for the next day. Definitely document everything because they'll try to mark YOU as the no-show if you don't have proof. So frustrating that we have to deal with this when we're already stressed about benefits! 😤

@Abigail bergen omg yes the screenshot thing is so important! I learned that the hard way when they initially tried to blame me for missing a meeting that THEY didn t'show up to. It s'crazy that we have to protect ourselves like this when we re'just trying to get the help we need. Thanks for sharing your experience - makes me feel less alone in dealing with this mess!

This exact same thing happened to me about a month ago! I was so frustrated sitting there for an hour and fifteen minutes with nobody showing up. Here's what I did that worked: I immediately took screenshots of the meeting room showing I was there, then went to the NY DOL website and used their online message center to report the issue. I also called their technical support line (not the main claims line) at 518-485-7000 - they have a separate number for virtual meeting issues. They were actually pretty responsive and got me rescheduled within 2 days. The key is to report it as a "technical issue" rather than just trying to reschedule normally. Don't let them mark this as YOUR no-show because it definitely wasn't! Keep pushing and document everything. You got this! 💪

@Sean Doyle this is super helpful! I had no idea there was a separate technical support line - definitely calling 518-485-7000 tomorrow. Really appreciate you sharing the specific steps that worked for you. It s'ridiculous that we have to become experts at navigating their broken system just to get our benefits, but at least there are people like you helping others figure it out. Thanks for taking the time to write all this out! 🙏

This is absolutely ridiculous but unfortunately super common right now. I had the EXACT same thing happen to me three weeks ago - waited an hour and a half like a fool while nobody showed up. What saved me was immediately documenting everything with timestamps and screenshots, then filing a complaint through the NY DOL website under "Contact Us" > "Technical Issues." Don't just try to reschedule normally because they might try to mark you as the no-show! I also found success calling their main line early in the morning (like 8:01 AM sharp) - seems like that's when you have the best chance of getting through. Make sure you mention that YOU were present and THEY were the no-show, because their default seems to be blaming us claimants. It took about 4 business days but I finally got rescheduled and my benefits weren't affected. Hang in there - this system is broken but you can get through it! 🙏

@Micah Franklin thank you SO much for this detailed breakdown! The 8:01 AM tip is gold - never thought about timing it that precisely but it makes total sense. I m'definitely going to try that tomorrow morning. It s'honestly insane that we have to become strategic experts just to navigate their broken system, but I really appreciate you sharing what actually worked. The fact that it took 4 business days but didn t'affect your benefits gives me hope. Going to follow your exact steps - screenshot everything, file under technical issues, and call bright and early. Really grateful for people like you who take the time to help others through this mess! 💙

This just happened to me yesterday too! So frustrating. What worked for me was taking screenshots immediately (meeting room, time, confirmation email) then filing through the DOL website under "Contact Us" > "Technical Issues" - NOT regular rescheduling. Also try calling 518-485-7000 (their tech support line) instead of the main number. They actually answered and could see their agent was a no-show. Got rescheduled within 48 hours and they noted it was their fault, not mine. Document everything because they'll try to flip it on you otherwise. You definitely shouldn't lose benefits over THEIR mistake! 💪

@Emma Olsen thank you for sharing that tech support number! I had no idea 518-485-7000 existed - definitely calling them tomorrow. It s'so reassuring to hear they actually acknowledged it was their agent s'fault and got you rescheduled quickly. The whole system feels designed to make us give up, but seeing success stories like yours gives me hope. Really appreciate you taking the time to share the exact steps that worked! 🙏

This is happening way too frequently lately! Just want to add that if you have a smartphone, try recording a quick video of yourself in the waiting room showing the time and that no one else is there. I did this when it happened to me and it was extra proof that helped when I filed the complaint. Also, if you're on a computer, take a screenshot of your browser showing the meeting URL and timestamp. The more documentation you have, the better. It's ridiculous we have to protect ourselves like this, but unfortunately that's where we're at with this broken system. Hope you get it resolved quickly! 🤞

@Natasha Kuznetsova that s'such a smart idea about recording a video! I never thought about that but it would definitely be solid proof. Taking screenshots is one thing but actually showing yourself waiting in an empty room with a timestamp would be pretty undeniable evidence. Thanks for the tip - definitely doing this if it ever happens to me again. It s'sad that we have to think like lawyers just to protect ourselves from their incompetence, but better safe than sorry!

This happened to me last month and I was livid! What I discovered is that you can actually check if the agent logged into the meeting system by calling the Virtual Meeting Support line at 518-457-2299 - they have logs of who was supposed to be there. When I called, they confirmed their agent never even logged in and immediately flagged it as "agency error" in my file. This is crucial because it prevents them from marking you as a no-show. I also sent a follow-up email to my assigned caseworker with all my screenshots attached. Got rescheduled within 3 days and they added a note that the missed meeting was due to technical issues on their end. Don't let them gaslight you into thinking this was somehow your fault - you showed up, they didn't! 🔥

@Ethan Brown wow that Virtual Meeting Support line at 518-457-2299 is a game changer! I had no idea they actually keep logs of agent logins - that s'exactly the kind of proof we need to protect ourselves. The fact that they immediately flagged it as agency "error in" your file is huge because like you said, it prevents them from flipping the blame on us. Definitely saving this number and all these tips. It s'crazy that we have to become detective-level investigators just to navigate their system, but thank you for sharing what actually works! This thread has been so helpful for all of us dealing with this mess 🙏

This thread is incredibly helpful! I just went through the same nightmare last week - waited 90 minutes for a meeting that never happened. Following everyone's advice, I immediately took screenshots of the meeting room, my confirmation email, and the timestamp. Then I called that Virtual Meeting Support line at 518-457-2299 that @Ethan Brown mentioned - HUGE game changer! They confirmed their agent never logged in and marked it as "agency error" in my file within minutes. Also filed a complaint under "Technical Issues" on the DOL website like several people suggested. Got a response in 2 days and was rescheduled without any issues. The key is definitely documenting EVERYTHING and using the right channels - don't let them flip this on you when it's clearly their system failing us. Thanks to everyone sharing their experiences, it made navigating this so much easier! 💯

@Fatima Al-Hashimi thank you for putting together such a comprehensive summary of all the tips from this thread! This is exactly what I needed - having all the key phone numbers, steps, and strategies in one place makes it so much less overwhelming. It s'honestly amazing how much we ve'all had to learn just to navigate their broken system, but at least we re'helping each other figure it out. Definitely saving that Virtual Meeting Support number 518-457-2299 (and) the Technical "Issues filing" route. Really grateful for everyone sharing their experiences here - makes me feel way less alone in dealing with this mess! 🙏

This is happening SO much lately it's not even funny anymore! Just had the same thing happen to me two days ago - sat there for over an hour like a total fool waiting for someone who never showed. What's really helped me (and echoing what others have said) is immediately taking screenshots of EVERYTHING - the meeting room, your confirmation email, the timestamp, even a quick screen recording if you can. Then I called that Virtual Meeting Support line at 518-457-2299 that @Ethan Brown shared (absolute lifesaver!) and they confirmed their agent was a no-show and marked it as "agency error" right away. Also filed under "Technical Issues" on the DOL website like everyone's suggesting - got a response in 48 hours. The most important thing is DON'T let them try to blame you for their technical failures! Document everything and use these specific phone numbers and filing methods people have shared. This thread has been a goldmine of actual solutions - we shouldn't have to become unemployment claim experts just to get help, but here we are helping each other navigate this broken system! 🤝

@Yara Sayegh this whole thread has been such a lifesaver! Just went through the exact same thing this morning - waited over an hour and nobody showed. Following everyone s'advice here, I immediately took screenshots and called that Virtual Meeting Support line at 518-457-2299. They confirmed the agent never logged in and marked it as agency error in my file! Also filed the technical issues complaint on the DOL website. It s'honestly ridiculous that we have to become experts at protecting ourselves from their system failures, but I m'so grateful for everyone sharing these specific steps and phone numbers. Makes me feel way less helpless dealing with this mess. Really hoping they get their act together soon but at least we have each other s'backs! 💪

This is such a widespread issue right now and it's absolutely infuriating! Reading through everyone's experiences here has been both validating and incredibly helpful. I went through the same nightmare last month - waited an hour and twenty minutes for absolutely nobody to show up. Following the advice in this thread, I immediately took screenshots of everything (meeting room, confirmation email, timestamps) and called that Virtual Meeting Support line at 518-457-2299 that several people mentioned. They were able to confirm their agent never even logged into the system and marked it as "agency error" in my file right away. Also filed a complaint under "Technical Issues" on the DOL website like everyone suggested - got a response within 48 hours and was rescheduled without any penalties. The key is definitely documenting EVERYTHING and using these specific channels rather than trying to reschedule through normal means. It's honestly disgraceful that we have to become experts at protecting ourselves from their system failures when we're already stressed about our benefits, but I'm so grateful for this community sharing actual solutions that work. Hopefully they fix these technical issues soon, but until then at least we have each other's backs! 🙏
