New York Unemployment Request for Reconsideration Timeline?
I submitted a request for reconsideration a few weeks ago for my unemployment claim. Anyone know the typical timeline for them to make a decision? Getting anxious since my bills are piling up and I really need this resolved.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone using claimyr.com - they dial and wait on hold, then connect you when an agent picks up. Costs $20 but worth it to check your status. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•$20 seems steep just to make a phone call 🤔

•cheaper than missing work to sit on hold all day tbh

The best way to speed up reconsideration is to make sure you submitted ALL required documents. Double check everything. Missing docs = major delays

Document EVERYTHING. Save screenshots, emails, faxes. Had to wait 4 months for mine but having all the paperwork helped when I finally got through.

Hey all, unemployment specialist here! Let me break this down: Typical timeline is 6-8 weeks but can vary based on: - Complexity of your case - Volume of requests - Completeness of documentation Best practices: 1. Keep checking your online account daily 2. Use claimyr.com to reach an agent if needed 3. Send follow-up documents via fax/mail 4. Contact your state representative if it goes beyond 8 weeks DM me if you need more specific guidance! 💯

I'm going through the same thing right now - submitted my reconsideration request about 3 weeks ago and still waiting. From what I've been reading online, it seems like the delays are getting worse because they're so understaffed. Have you tried calling the main number early in the morning? I heard 8am is the best time to get through, though I haven't had luck yet myself. Hang in there, we're all in this together!

•Thanks for the solidarity! Yeah I tried calling at 8am sharp yesterday but still couldn't get through after an hour on hold. The understaffing makes so much sense - feels like they're drowning in cases right now. At least knowing others are going through the same thing helps a bit. Hoping we both hear something soon! 🤞

I feel your pain! I'm about 5 weeks into waiting for my reconsideration decision. What I've learned is that contacting your local assembly member's office can sometimes help - they have a constituent services team that can do case inquiries with DOL on your behalf. It's free and they actually got back to me within a few days (still waiting on DOL though). Also, if you haven't already, make sure you're continuing to certify weekly even during the appeal process. Don't let that lapse or it creates even more complications. Sending good vibes that we all get resolution soon! 🙏

•This is really helpful advice! I hadn't thought about reaching out to my assembly member - that's a great tip about the constituent services team. And thanks for the reminder about continuing to certify weekly, I almost forgot about that requirement during the appeal. It's reassuring to know there are people like you sharing useful info in this community. Hope your case gets resolved soon too! 🤞

I'm about 6 weeks into my reconsideration wait and just wanted to share what's been working for me. Besides the great tips already mentioned here, I've found that keeping a detailed log of every interaction helps a lot - date, time, who you spoke with, case numbers, etc. Also, if you're really struggling financially, look into local food banks and emergency assistance programs while you wait. Some churches and community centers have emergency funds specifically for unemployment situations. The wait is brutal but don't give up! I've seen people get approved even after 3+ months, so there's still hope. Stay strong everyone! 💪

•This is such solid advice, especially about keeping detailed logs! I've been pretty disorganized with tracking my interactions so far - definitely going to start doing that. The tip about local emergency assistance is really thoughtful too. It's easy to forget there might be other resources available while waiting for this whole mess to get sorted out. Really appreciate you taking the time to share what's working for you, gives me hope that persistence will pay off eventually! 🙏

I'm in a similar boat - submitted my reconsideration request about 4 weeks ago and the uncertainty is killing me! One thing that's helped me stay sane is setting up a simple spreadsheet to track all my interactions and important dates. I also signed up for text alerts through the DOL website so I get notified immediately if there's any update to my case status. Has anyone had luck with the online chat feature, or is calling still the only way to get real answers? The waiting is so stressful when you're already dealing with financial pressure. Thanks for asking this question - it's comforting to know we're all going through this together! 💙

•I tried the online chat feature a few times but it's pretty much useless - they can only see basic info and can't actually help with reconsideration status. Calling is definitely the better option even though it's a nightmare to get through. The text alerts are smart though, I should set those up! It really does help knowing we're all dealing with this stress together. Hopefully we'll all get good news soon 🤞
