New York Unemployment First Time Claim - When Will I Get Paid?
Just submitted my first unemployment claim and got approved. Never done this before so I'm confused about when I'll actually see money in my account. The website isn't clear about the timeline. Anyone know how long it usually takes to get the first payment?

Usually takes about 2-3 weeks after you file to get your first payment. Make sure you do your weekly certifications every single week or you won't get paid 💯

•Do I have to wait until Sunday to do the certification?

•Yep! You can only certify between Sunday morning and Saturday night for the previous week

I found a way to actually talk to someone at unemployment! Used this site claimyr.com - its a service that calls and waits on hold, then connects you when someone picks up. Costs $20 but worth every penny fr fr. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

Took me exactly 3 weeks to get my first payment. Had to call like 50 times cause there was an issue with my claim tho 🤮

Here's everything you need to know about your first claim: 1. First payment usually takes 2-3 weeks if everything's perfect 2. You MUST certify weekly starting the first Sunday after you apply 3. Make sure your direct deposit info is correct 4. If you see any pending issues, don't wait - call them asap 5. Keep documenting your work search activities 6. If you can't get through on the phone, try claimyr.com - they'll wait on hold for you 7. Keep checking your email/mail for any requests for additional info The system's kinda trash ngl but once you learn the ropes its manageable

First time filing can be nerve-wracking but you're on the right track! Just to add to what everyone else said - make sure you keep all your paperwork from when you got laid off/fired. They might ask for it later. Also download the NY Labor app on your phone, makes the weekly certifications way easier than doing it on the website. The waiting sucks but hang in there! 💪
