Need help finding what is marvin unemployment number for NYS Department of Labor claims

I keep seeing people mention something called a marvin unemployment number when talking about filing claims but I can't figure out what this is for NYS Department of Labor. Is this something specific I need to know about for my weekly claims? I'm new to the unemployment system and don't want to miss anything important. My claim was just approved last week and I want to make sure I'm doing everything right.

Marvin isn't used in New York. That's actually an automated phone system that some other states use for filing unemployment claims. In NY, you file your weekly claims online through the my.ny.gov portal or call the NYS Department of Labor Tele-Cert line at 888-581-5812. Don't worry about marvin - it doesn't apply to your situation here.

Oh that makes so much sense! I was getting confused reading posts from people in other states. Thanks for clearing that up.

yeah i was confused about that too when i first started filing. new york has their own system through the department of labor website. just stick to the official ny.gov site and you'll be fine

To clarify for anyone else reading this - each state has its own unemployment system. Marvin is used in states like Michigan and some others, but New York uses the my.ny.gov portal for online claims or the Tele-Cert phone system. Always make sure you're using your state's official system. For NYS Department of Labor, that's my.ny.gov for online filing or 888-581-5812 for phone filing.

This is really helpful! I almost tried calling a marvin number I found online before realizing it wasn't for NY. Could have wasted a lot of time.

If you're having trouble getting through to NYS Department of Labor by phone to file claims or check status, I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helps you actually reach an agent. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. Really saved me when I was stuck in adjudication and couldn't get through the regular way.

Good to know there are options if I run into problems. Hopefully I won't need it but I'll keep that in mind.

Just to add - make sure you're filing your weekly claims on time every week through the correct NY system. Missing a week can cause delays in your benefits.
