Confused about what unemployment measure means on my NYS Department of Labor claim status
I'm looking at my NYS Department of Labor account and there's something called 'unemployment measure' listed but I have no idea what this actually tracks or measures. Is this related to my weekly benefit amount? My job search activities? I've been on unemployment for 6 weeks now and this term keeps showing up but nobody at NYS Department of Labor explains what it actually means when I try calling. My claim is approved and I'm getting benefits but I want to make sure I understand everything on my account. Has anyone else seen this and know what unemployment measure refers to?

The unemployment measure typically refers to how NYS Department of Labor calculates your benefit eligibility and tracks your claim metrics. It includes things like your base period wages, weekly benefit rate calculation, and duration of benefits available. It's basically the system measuring your unemployment situation against their criteria for payments.

•That makes sense! So it's not something I need to worry about as long as my weekly claims are going through normally?

I think it also measures your job search compliance and whether you're meeting the work search requirements. NYS Department of Labor tracks how many job contacts you're making per week and whether you're actively looking for work. If you're not meeting their unemployment measure standards you could get disqualified.

•Wait really? I thought the job search stuff was separate from the benefit calculation. Now I'm worried I'm not doing enough job searches each week.

If you're having trouble getting through to NYS Department of Labor to ask about this stuff, I used a service called Claimyr that actually got me connected to a real person. You can check it out at claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Way easier than sitting on hold for hours just to ask a simple question about your claim.

•Thanks for the suggestion! I've been so frustrated trying to get answers from NYS Department of Labor directly.

The unemployment measure could also be referring to statistical data that NYS Department of Labor collects for labor market analysis. They track unemployment rates, duration of claims, benefit utilization - all that gets measured and reported. Your individual claim contributes to those broader unemployment measures for the state.
