Need a working phone number for NY unemployment password reset - 888 number is useless
I've been trying to access my unemployment account for days now but completely forgot my password. I called the number that's listed on the website (888-469-7365) about five times already and it's completely useless. First you wait through all those automated prompts, then when you finally select the option for password reset, it just says they're experiencing high call volume and hangs up! No option to hold or callback. I tried at different times - early morning, afternoon, even tried late evening yesterday. Always the same result. Has anyone actually managed to get through to reset their password? Is there another number I should be calling? This is getting so frustrating because I need to check on my claim status and can't even log in.

Same issue here! I've been locked out for almost 2 weeks. That 888 number is a complete joke. I even tried the 'forgot password' option on the website but never got the email they claim they send. The whole NY unemployment system is designed to be impossible to navigate on purpose I swear.

•THISSS!!! They make it hard on purpose so people just give up. I'm convinced.

•Did you ever find a solution? I'm going crazy trying to get back into my account.

•Nope still locked out. Might try going to an actual office in person at this point if that's even possible anymore 🙄

After a week of trying that useless number, I finally got through using claimyr.com - it's a service that waits on hold and calls you when a real person picks up. Talking to an agent got my password reset issue resolved in minutes, definitely worth it to skip that horrible phone system. They even have a video explaining how it works here: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•Is this some kinda scam? seems suspicious that there's a 'service' to fix something the state should handle properly 🤔

•Not a scam at all! It literally just does the holding for you. I was skeptical too but was desperate after trying for days. They don't ask for any personal info - they just call the unemployment line and when someone answers, they connect you. Saved me hours of frustration.

•I've seen this recommended before on here. Does it actually work for the password reset specifically? That dept seems particularly impossible to reach.

•Yep! That's exactly what I used it for. The agent I spoke to was able to verify my identity and reset my password on the spot.

•wait this sounds too good to be true... so they just wait on hold FOR you??

•Exactly! That's literally all it is. They call and navigate the menu system, wait through the hold, then your phone rings when there's a real person. Then you just talk directly to the unemployment agent.

Try calling exactly at 8:01am when they open. I got through after trying this trick. Also, check your spam folder for the reset email - mine went there for some reason.

The main unemployment help line sometimes can reset your password too. Try 888-209-8124 instead of the specific password one. Seemed to have better luck with that number personally.

•That number is just as useless honestly. Been calling for 3 days and can't get past the automated system.

Here's what worked for me with NY unemployment password issues. This is a comprehensive approach that finally got me back into my account after being locked out for almost 2 weeks: 1. First, try the password reset via email multiple times. Sometimes there's a delay or it goes to spam folders. 2. Call the main number (888-209-8124) right when they open at 8:00am. Be ready to dial right at 8:00 on the dot. 3. If that fails, try reaching out via their social media. Sometimes the Twitter team can escalate your issue. 4. As a last resort, use a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that basically waits on hold for you and calls when a real person answers. It saved me HOURS of frustration and the agent I got was able to reset my password immediately. 5. If all else fails, try to see if you can schedule an in-person appointment at a local office. The system is incredibly frustrating but don't give up - keep trying different approaches until you get through!

•Thank you for this detailed breakdown! I'm going to try all of these methods starting tomorrow.

•Does the claimyr thing really work? Seems like it would be against some rule or something.

•It definitely works. It's just a call service that waits on hold for you - nothing sketchy about it. I had the same thought initially but was desperate after days of trying. It connected me to a real NYSDOL agent who fixed my issue.

this is gonna sound weird but try calling from a different phone number if you can. i was stuck in loop hell for days using my cell, borrowed my mom's phone and got through first try. No idea why but might be worth trying.

•Really? That's bizarre but I'm desperate enough to try anything at this point lol

•Can confirm this works sometimes! The system might flag numbers that call too frequently as potential spam or something.

if u need immediate access try making a new account with a different email. Not ideal but worked 4 me when I was in a similar situation last year

•Don't do this! It can cause problems with your claim if you have multiple accounts.

I used claimyr.com last week for this exact issue - password reset. It worked perfectly and saved me so much time. The unemployment agent I spoke to was able to verify my identity and reset my password in like 5 minutes. The service just waits on hold for you then calls your phone when an agent picks up. Complete gamechanger for dealing with ny unemployment honestly.

•sounds sketchy. y would u need to use a service for something that should be free?

StarSailor
•It should be free! But when you've spent days trying to get through and can't, paying for a service that saves you hours of frustration becomes worth it. I was missing payments because I couldn't access my account.

•I've heard about this service before. Does it actually connect you with a REAL unemployment agent? Not some third party?

StarSailor
•Yes! It connects you with the actual NY unemployment office agents - the same ones you'd reach if you waited on hold yourself. They just do the waiting part for you.

Pro tip: call your local state representative's office. I was stuck with a similar issue and their constituent services helped me get through to unemployment within a day. They have special contacts there.

This is why the ny unemployment system is such a joke. They make basic things like password resets nearly impossible. I swear the whole system is designed to frustrate people into giving up on their benefits.

Dealing with ny unemployment is literally hell on earth. I'd rather do my taxes blindfolded than try to navigate their phone system again.
