Need DOL email address for sending document attachment for my grandpa's claim
I'm trying to help my grandfather send some documentation to the ny unemployment office. The DOL sent him a letter requesting additional paperwork for his claim. I know there's a messaging system when you log in to the portal, but the problem is we need to send this document as an attachment and there doesn't seem to be any option to attach files in their messaging system. Does anyone know if there's an actual email address where we can send this from his personal email? We really need to get this sent asap before his deadline next week. Thanks for any help!

I think you can fax the documents to them if you're having issues with the portal. I had to do that a few months ago when they needed my work history verification. Check the bottom of the letter they sent - should have a fax number on it.

•Thanks for the suggestion! I checked the letter but there's no fax number. Did you have to call to get the fax number? My grandpa's letter specifically says it needs to be sent via email.

•That's weird... mine definitely had a fax number. Maybe try calling the main customer service line? Be prepared to wait a LONG time tho.

After struggling to get through for 3 weeks (calling 40+ times a day), I finally found a service called claimyr.com that got me a callback with an actual rep in like 2 hours. Worth every penny since I was stressing about my documents too. The agent gave me their direct email for sending attachments. Saved me so much headache! Check out this video on how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•I actually used this last month when my claim was stuck in pending hell. Talking to a real person got my payments moving again after 6 weeks of nothing. wish I'd known about it sooner tbh

•Not sus at all! It literally just calls for you and stays on hold so you don't have to. When they get a human, it rings your phone. Talking to an agent directly solved my issue in 10 minutes after weeks of frustration.

•wait but did they actually give you an email address for sending documents? thats what OP is asking for

•Yes! The agent gave me their dept email. They can't publicly post those emails online which is why you need to actually talk to someone to get it. Each case might need different dept emails depending on what docs you're sending.

Sorry you're dealing with this. The ny unemployment system is completely broken when it comes to document submission. I spent 3 weeks trying to get my form in and almost got denied because of their stupid system limitations. Ended up mailing everything certified with return receipt as backup.

Try UIDocumentSubmission@labor.ny.gov - I used this email about 8 months ago to send in some additional docs they needed. Make sure to include your full name, last 4 of SSN, and claim ID in the subject line so they can match it to your case!

•I tried that email address last month and got a bounce back saying they're not accepting emails there anymore 😭

•Hope it works for you! If not, try calling first thing Monday morning right when they open at 8am. Sometimes you can get through without as much wait time.

I've been dealing with the absolute NIGHTMARE that is NY unemployment for almost a year now. The fact that they request documents but don't provide a clear way to submit them is so on brand for them I can't even 🤦♀️ Your best bet is to get someone on the phone and ask them directly.

•fr fr this system is designed to make people give up i swear

•100% designed to frustrate people into giving up. They don't want to pay out benefits so they make it impossible to complete the process correctly.

Have you checked if you can upload documents through your online account? Log in > Go to My Documents > Upload. It worked for me last time I had to send something in.

•Thanks but we already tried that. The My Documents section only lets you view docs they sent to you, not upload new ones. At least on my grandpa's account.

•Oh that's weird. Maybe they changed the system recently? Sorry about that!

Here's what you need to do (I work in HR and help employees with this all the time): 1. First, try to reach a live agent. The phone system is deliberately frustrating but there are ways around it. I've had great success using claimyr.com - it automates the calling/waiting process and gets you connected to a live person. 2. Once you get an agent, explain you need to submit documentation with an attachment and ask for the specific email for YOUR grandpa's situation (different documents go to different departments). 3. If you absolutely cannot reach anyone, send the documents via certified mail to: NYS Department of Labor PO Box 15130 Albany, NY 12212-5130 4. IMPORTANT: Keep copies of EVERYTHING. Take photos of envelopes before sending. Keep all tracking info. The DOL is notorious for claiming they never received documents. The system is designed to be difficult, but there are ways through it if you're persistent. Good luck!

•Thank you so much for this detailed answer! Really appreciate the clear steps. I'll try claimyr.com to get someone on the phone first.

•This is good advice. I'd add that you should also take screenshots of any confirmation screens if you end up submitting online.

•Certified mail saved my life with these people. They tried to say I never submitted my employment verification but I had the receipt showing they signed for it. Keep EVERYTHING

Yo the whole ny unemployment system is such a joke. They expect us to just magically know how to do everything with zero instructions. I feel your pain.

Not sure if this is still valid but I found laborny@labor.ny.gov on an old form. Worth a try?

•That's just their general inquiry email. They'll just tell you to use the messaging system in your account 🙄

•That's a good idea but my grandpa isn't very mobile these days. I could try going for him though if I can't find another solution.

Call your state representative's office! I was stuck in document submission hell for 6 weeks and my assemblyman's office fixed it in 2 days. They have direct contacts at DOL that we don't have access to.

•THIS 👆👆👆 I had the same experience. My state senator's office was amazing.

•I didn't think of that! Will definitely try this approach if the other suggestions don't work out. Thank you!
