NYS Department of Labor how to receive unemployment payment after approval

My claim was finally approved last week after being in adjudication for almost a month, but I still haven't received any payments. The NYS Department of Labor website shows my weekly claims were processed but no money has come through. I set up direct deposit when I first applied. Do I need to do something else to actually receive the unemployment payments? This is my first time dealing with unemployment and I'm not sure what the next steps are.

Once your claim is approved, payments usually take 2-3 business days to hit your account if you have direct deposit set up. Make sure you've been filing your weekly claims every week - even if your claim was in adjudication, you still needed to keep certifying. Check your payment history on the my.ny.gov portal to see if the payments show as 'released' or 'issued'.

I did file every week during adjudication. The payment history shows 'issued' for all my weekly claims from the past month. Does that mean the money should be in my account already?

If it shows 'issued' then the NYS Department of Labor has sent the payment. Check with your bank - sometimes there can be delays on their end, especially if it's a large lump sum from multiple weeks. You might also want to verify that your direct deposit information is correct in your profile.

Just checked and my routing and account numbers look right. I'll call my bank tomorrow to see if there's an issue on their side.

This exact thing happened to me! Took almost 6 weeks to get my first payment after approval because there was some verification issue they didn't tell me about. I couldn't get through to anyone at NYS Department of Labor by calling - the phone lines are always jammed. Eventually used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that actually got me through to a real person who could check what was holding up my payments. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Turned out there was a simple ID verification issue that took 5 minutes to fix once I could talk to someone.

How much does that service cost? Seems like we shouldn't have to pay extra just to reach the unemployment office.

I was frustrated about paying too but honestly it was worth it to finally get answers. Much better than spending hours calling and getting hung up on.

UGH the NYS Department of Labor payment system is SO BROKEN!! I've been waiting 3 weeks for payments that show as 'issued' and still nothing in my account. This is ridiculous - people need this money to survive and they act like it's no big deal that payments just disappear into thin air.

One more thing to check - make sure you didn't accidentally set up a debit card instead of direct deposit. NYS Department of Labor sometimes defaults to their KeyBank debit card option and people don't realize it. If that's the case, you should have received a card in the mail within 7-10 days of your first issued payment.
