NYS Department of Labor claim showing 'processing' status - what does processing mean on unemployment?
Filed my initial unemployment claim with NYS Department of Labor about 10 days ago and it's been stuck on 'processing' status this whole time. I can see it in my my.ny.gov account but there's no other information about what's happening or how long this takes. I've been doing my weekly claims but haven't received any payments yet. Does anyone know what does processing mean on unemployment claims? Is this normal or should I be worried something's wrong with my application?

Processing usually means they're reviewing your work history and verifying the information you provided. NYS Department of Labor has to confirm your wages with previous employers and make sure you qualify. Can take anywhere from 2-4 weeks depending on how busy they are.

•Thanks! I was starting to panic thinking I did something wrong. Should I keep filing my weekly claims while it's processing?

The processing status indicates your claim is under review but hasn't entered adjudication yet. This is actually a good sign - it means there are no obvious red flags that would trigger an immediate investigation. NYS Department of Labor is just doing their standard verification process. Make sure you continue filing your weekly claims because if you miss any, you could lose those weeks of benefits even after approval.

•What's the difference between processing and adjudication? I keep seeing both terms mentioned.

•Processing is routine verification - checking your work history, wages, etc. Adjudication happens when there's an issue that needs investigation, like a separation dispute or eligibility question. You definitely want to stay in processing rather than move to adjudication.

I've been trying to call NYS Department of Labor for two weeks to check on my processing claim but can never get through! The phone system is impossible. Has anyone found a way to actually talk to someone about claim status?

•I had the same problem until someone told me about claimyr.com - they help you get through to NYS Department of Labor agents by phone. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. I was skeptical but it actually got me connected to someone who could explain my processing delay.

processing can also mean they're waiting for some document you forgot to submit... check if theres any messages in your account asking for additional info

I'm going through the same thing right now - filed about 8 days ago and still showing processing status. From what I've read, NYS Department of Labor is really backed up lately so the processing times have been longer than usual. I've been checking my account daily but trying not to stress about it too much since everyone seems to say it's normal. Just make sure you keep doing your weekly certifications like others mentioned because those weeks count once you get approved!
