NYS Department of Labor adjudication by definition means what exactly for my UI claim?

Can someone explain what adjudication means by definition when it comes to my unemployment claim? My NYS Department of Labor account has been showing 'adjudication in progress' for two weeks now and I have no idea what that actually means or how long this is supposed to take. I filed my initial claim on January 8th and everything seemed fine until this status appeared. I've been filing my weekly claims but not getting any payments. By definition, does adjudication mean they're investigating something? Did I do something wrong? I'm getting really stressed about this because I need these benefits to pay rent.

Adjudication by definition means NYS Department of Labor is reviewing your claim to determine if you're eligible for benefits. This happens when there's a question about your separation from work, your availability for work, or other eligibility factors. Common reasons include employer disputes about why you left your job, questions about your work search efforts, or issues with your identity verification. The process typically takes 2-6 weeks depending on the complexity of the issue.

Thank you for explaining that! I left my last job because my hours were cut to almost nothing. Do you think that's what they're investigating?

same thing happening to me right now, been in adjudication for 3 weeks and no updates. by definition this system is broken if it takes this long just to review a simple claim

You can try calling NYS Department of Labor to check on your adjudication status, but honestly their phone lines are always busy. I had success using Claimyr recently - it's a service that helps you get through to actual NYS Department of Labor agents. Check out claimyr.com and they have a demo video at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Saved me hours of trying to call.

Adjudication by definition is just bureaucratic speak for 'we're taking forever to make a decision.' I've been through this twice and both times it took over a month. Keep filing your weekly claims though because if you're approved, you'll get back pay for all the weeks you certified.

A whole month?? I can't wait that long without any income. This is so frustrating.

That Claimyr thing sounds interesting @profile2. Did you actually talk to someone at NYS Department of Labor through them?
