NYDOL won't update info, NJ can't process claim - 5 weeks no payment. Help!
I've been dealing with unemployment issues between NY and NJ for 5 weeks now. I need NY to update my info in their system so NJ can process my claim and pay me. Anyone else been in this situation? How did you handle it? I'm thinking about emailing NYDOL but I'm not sure how to write it or who to send it to. Any advice?

Ugh, interstate claims are the WORST. I had a similar issue between PA and NJ. Took me forever to get it sorted. Have you tried calling NYDOL directly?

Yeah, their phone lines are a joke. Keep trying tho, eventually you'll get lucky and get through to someone who can help.

Pro tip: call right when they open. You might have to wait on hold for a while, but at least you'll get in the queue.

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

Sounds too good to be true. Does it really work?

It worked for me! Saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

Idk man, paying to get through to a government agency feels wrong. Shouldn't this be free?

I get it, but after weeks of not getting paid, I was desperate. It's not ideal, but it got the job done.

Here's what you need to do: 1. Gather all your docs - claim numbers, dates of unemployment, any notices you've received. 2. Write a clear email explaining your situation. Be specific about needing NY to update your info for NJ to process. 3. Send it to NYDOL's interstate claims department. Email: interstate.claims@labor.ny.gov 4. Follow up with a phone call in a few days if you don't hear back. 5. If that doesn't work, reach out to your local state representative. They can sometimes cut through the red tape. Good luck! Interstate claims are a pain, but stay persistent.

Great advice! I'd add: keep a log of all your communications. It'll help if you need to escalate later.

Have you tried reaching out on Twitter? Sometimes publicly @ing them can get their attention faster than traditional methods.

Oof, interstate claims are rough. Hang in there, OP! 💪 It took me about 7 weeks to get mine sorted between CA and OR. Just keep bugging them and document EVERYTHING.

Anyone else think its ridiculous that we gotta jump through all these hoops just to get what we're entitled to? The whole system needs an overhaul smh

Preach! 🙌 It's like they make it difficult on purpose to discourage people from claiming.

For real. In 2023, you'd think they'd have a better system for this stuff. But noooo, we're still dealing with fax machines and busy signals 🙄

Hey OP, when you do get through to someone, make sure to get their name and a reference number for the call. It'll save you a lot of headache if you need to follow up later.
