NY unemployment released only 1 week of back pay today - when will other 4 weeks come?
I finally got one payment from NY unemployment today after waiting for ages, but they still owe me for 4 more weeks of back pay. My account shows those weeks as 'processed' but only one payment hit my account this morning. Anyone know how long it takes for them to release the rest? Do they stagger payments or should I be worried something's wrong? I really need that money for rent due next week.

•Thanks! Did all your payments eventually come through? I'm just nervous because I've been waiting so long already.

Back payments are typically processed in batches, not all at once. The NYSDOL system releases them sequentially over several business days to prevent processing errors. Each payment needs to clear individually through their verification system. If your account shows them as 'processed,' that's a good sign - they're in the queue. I'd expect to see the remaining payments appear over the next 3-5 business days.

•THIS IS NOT TRUE!! They held mine for WEEKS and I had to call 47 TIMES to get someone to manually release them!!! Don't just sit and wait or you'll be broke forever while they "process" your money!!!!

The NYSDOL tends to release back payments in increments, especially if there were any certification issues or identity verification steps involved. What does your payment history page show specifically? If it shows all 5 weeks as 'processed' or 'released' with release dates, you'll get them on those dates. If some weeks show 'pending' still, that might need additional action.

•It shows all 5 as 'processed' with the same release date (yesterday), but only 1 actually hit my account today. The other 4 still say 'released' but haven't shown up in my bank account. I guess I'll wait a few more days before panicking.

I went through this EXACT same thing in January!! They released 1 week of my 6 weeks backpay and I freaked out thinking something was wrong with the other 5 weeks. I kept trying to call but never got through to anyone. Have you tried calling them? I think there's a specific option for payment issues but I could never get past the automated system.

•OP should definitely call. I had a similar situation last month where my back pay got stuck in some weird status. Only way to fix it was to talk to a rep directly who could see what was happening in their system.

After struggling with the same back pay issue last month, I ended up using Claimyr to get through to a rep. I'd spent days trying to call normally but kept getting disconnected. With Claimyr (claimyr.com), I got connected to an agent in about 20 minutes who was able to see all my back payments in their system and confirm the release schedule. They even showed me exactly which dates to expect each payment. You can see how it works in their video demo: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE - definitely saved me a week of stress wondering where my money was.

•Thanks for the tip! If I don't see the other payments by Friday, I might try that. Did you have to explain anything special to the agent or did they just look up your account?

To add some clarity here: NY unemployment back pay processing depends on several factors: 1. If these are weeks you certified for all at once (retroactively), they'll typically process one per business day. 2. If these are weeks that were held pending an eligibility issue that was just resolved, they may process 1-2 per day depending on system load. 3. Bank processing times also factor in - direct deposits can take 1-3 business days depending on your bank, while debit card payments are usually faster. The good news is that 'processed' status means the payments are approved and just waiting for disbursement. This is normal procedure and not an error in your claim.

•ur saying its "normal procedure" but its complete BS!!! i had "processed" status for 3 weeks and nothin happened until i got thru to someone who said there was a "flag" on my acct that the website never showed!

•Good point. Their system updates throughout the day. I've seen changes appear as late as 10pm.

Update: Just checked and another payment showed up in my bank account today! Looks like you all were right about them staggering the payments. Hopefully the other 3 will come through in the next few days. Thanks everyone for the help and reassurance!

Glad to hear it! This confirms they're following the standard sequential release pattern. You should see the remaining payments arrive one by one over the next few business days. If for any reason they don't all appear by early next week, that would be the appropriate time to contact NYSDOL for clarification. But based on what you've described, the system is working as designed in your case.

•Thank you! Such a relief to know this is normal. The unemployment website doesn't explain any of this clearly.

So happy for you!! Mine came like that too - one per day for most of them, then the last two came together on the fourth day. The DOL really should explain this better on their website instead of making everyone panic and think something's wrong!
