NY unemployment payment timing after waiting week was processed - will I get paid this week?
My waiting week for NY unemployment was finally processed on January 13, 2025, and I filed my weekly claim this past Sunday. Does anyone know if I'll get my payment this week? This is my first time on unemployment and I'm confused about the payment timeline. I really need this money for rent due next week. The website just says 'pending' but doesn't give me any info about when to expect the deposit.

Yes, you should get paid this week. When your waiting week is processed and you file your weekly claim, payments typically take 2-3 business days to hit your account. Since you filed on Sunday, you'll likely see the money by Wednesday or Thursday, depending on your bank's processing time. Just make sure your payment method is set up correctly in your NY.gov account.

•Thank you so much! That's a relief. My payment method shows direct deposit to my checking account, so hopefully that's all set up right. I'll check again on Thursday.

Did u set up direct deposit? If not theyll send u a debit card and that takes like 7-10 days to come in the mail.

•I did set up direct deposit when I first applied. At least I think I did... now I'm second-guessing myself. Going to double check my account settings right now.

I just went through this last month! Filed on Sunday, money was in my account Thursday morning. The first payment always seems to take a little longer than the rest.

•That's good to know about the first payment taking longer. Thursday would be perfect - that's when my rent is due!

The timing can vary. Mine took 5 business days after my waiting week was processed. The NYSDOL system is overloaded right now with the seasonal layoffs. If you don't see it by Friday, you should try calling them to make sure there's no hold on your account. The frustrating part is getting through to a live person - I had to call like 50 times before someone picked up.

•calling them is literally IMPOSSIBLE!!! i tried for THREE WEEKS straight last year when they messed up my claim. complete waste of time. the system is broken and they dont care about us at all.

In my experience with NY unemployment, after your waiting week is processed, you should see payment within 3 business days of filing your weekly certification. However, there can sometimes be delays if: 1. It's your first payment (as others mentioned) 2. There are verification issues with your identity or employment history 3. You answered any certification questions that triggered a review If you don't receive payment by Friday, I'd recommend checking your payment history on the website or using the mobile app. It will show if the payment was released and when it was processed. That information is usually more up-to-date than the general status page.

•Thank you for such a detailed answer! I don't think I answered anything that would trigger a review, but it is my first payment. I'll definitely check the payment history section - I didn't even notice that part of the website.

is your claim showing as valid? mine said pending for like 2 weeks and then i realized i needed to upload more documents to prove my identity. check ur messages on the portal to see if they need anything else from u!!

•It says my claim is valid, and I don't see any messages asking for more documents. I already uploaded my ID and pay stubs when I first applied. I think maybe it's just the normal waiting period for the first payment.

they always say 2-3 days but mine always takes exactly 4 days every single time lol

•lucky you! mine was completely random. sometimes 2 days, sometimes a week with no explanation. NY unemployment is a total mess these days.

I just remembered something that might help you! If you're really concerned about the timing, you can sign up for text alerts about your claim status. Go to your NY.gov account settings and there should be an option for notifications. That way you'll get a text when your payment is processed and don't have to keep checking the website.

•That's an amazing tip! I just turned on text alerts. Now I won't have to obsessively check the website every few hours. Thank you!
