NYS Department of Labor waiting week payment - when do i get my waiting week on unemployment?

So I've been collecting unemployment for about 6 weeks now and I keep seeing people mention getting their waiting week paid back but I still haven't gotten mine. When exactly does NYS Department of Labor release the waiting week payment? My first week was unpaid like it's supposed to be but I thought they pay it back automatically after a few weeks. Is there something I need to do or does it just show up eventually? Getting anxious because I could really use that extra week of benefits right now.

The waiting week gets paid after you've received benefits for three consecutive weeks. So if your claim started 6 weeks ago and you've been getting paid regularly, you should have already received it by now. Check your payment history on your ny.gov account - it might have been deposited automatically and you missed the notification.

I checked and I don't see any extra payment. Maybe there was an issue with my claim that's holding it up?

There's usually a delay in the system processing the waiting week payment. Mine took almost 8 weeks to show up even though I was getting regular benefits. NYS Department of Labor sometimes batches these payments so don't panic yet. If you've been consistently filing your weekly claims and getting paid, it should come through soon.

8 weeks?? That's crazy long. I'm in the same situation and really need that money for rent

Had this exact problem last year! Turns out there was an issue with my job search documentation that was holding up the waiting week payment even though my regular benefits were coming through fine. You might want to call NYS Department of Labor to check if there are any unresolved issues on your claim. I know getting through is tough but I used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me get connected to an actual agent. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works.

Thanks! I'll check that out because I've been trying to call for days with no luck

Never heard of that service but anything is better than sitting on hold for hours just to get disconnected

ugh the waiting week thing is so confusing!! I thought it was just gone forever when I didn't get paid the first week. Good to know they actually pay it back eventually
