NY unemployment payment delayed after holiday - anyone else's benefits missing today?
I was expecting my NY unemployment benefits to hit my account today, but nothing has shown up yet. Anyone else having this issue? Since Monday was Presidents' Day, I figured there might be a delay, but it's Tuesday now and still nothing. I have Netspend and my payment normally comes through around 6:35 PM every Monday like clockwork. It's already 9 PM and still nothing in my account. Getting a bit worried since I have bills scheduled to come out tomorrow morning. Is this holiday delay normal or should I be concerned?

This is totally normal after a bank holiday. NY DOL processes payments on schedule but the banks take an extra day to clear everything. Your payment will most likely hit your account tomorrow morning. The federal reserve doesn't process ACH transfers on federal holidays, so everything gets pushed back a day. I've been on unemployment twice before and this happens every holiday.

•Oh thank goodness, that makes me feel better. I'll check again in the morning then. Just got nervous because I've never had a delay before.

Hey there! Just want to clarify something - while the NYSDOL processes claims on schedule, the actual payment processing through the banking system gets delayed by federal holidays. Presidents' Day is a federal reserve holiday, so all direct deposits scheduled for Monday get pushed to Tuesday, and Tuesday's get pushed to Wednesday. Your payment is still coming, just delayed by one business day. Nothing to worry about!

I NEVER GOT MINE EITHER!!! This happens EVERY SINGLE HOLIDAY and they NEVER warn us! Some of us have bills that are set to autopay and now I'm gonna get hit with overdraft fees because of this!!! The system is BROKEN!!!

•I understand your frustration, but this is actually a banking system issue rather than something specific to unemployment. Any direct deposit scheduled for a federal holiday gets processed the next business day. This applies to paychecks, government benefits, and any other ACH transfers. Most banks have this information on their websites or in their FAQs.

Since we're talking about payment delays, if you ever need to actually reach someone at NYSDOL about a more serious payment issue (not just holiday delays), I've had good luck using Claimyr to get through to an agent. Spent weeks trying to call about a payment that never showed up, then used their service and got through in 25 minutes. They have a demo video at https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE that shows how it works. Saved me tons of stress when I had a real payment problem last month.

•Does that actually work? I've tried calling like 50 times before and NEVER get through. It's impossible to talk to a real person.

•Yeah, it definitely works. I was skeptical too but I was desperate after my payment was missing for 3 weeks. Got connected to an actual claims specialist who fixed my issue in minutes once I actually reached them.

My partner's payment just hit our account about an hour ago (we have Chase). Maybe check again? The processing times seem to vary by bank after holidays.

•Just checked again and still nothing. Maybe Netspend is slower than other banks? I'll give it until tomorrow morning before I really start to worry.

Hi everyone, I worked at a bank for 5 years, and this is standard procedure following federal holidays. ACH processing (which is how direct deposits work) doesn't happen on federal holidays, so everything shifts forward one business day. This affects ALL direct deposits, not just unemployment benefits. For reference, here's the 2025 holiday schedule that will affect payment processing: - New Year's Day (January 1) - Martin Luther King Jr. Day (January 20) - Presidents' Day (February 17) - Memorial Day (May 26) - Juneteenth (June 19) - Independence Day (July 4) - Labor Day (September 1) - Columbus Day (October 13) - Veterans Day (November 11) - Thanksgiving (November 27) - Christmas (December 25) Mark these on your calendar so you won't be caught off guard next time!

•Thank you so much for this list! I'm definitely saving these dates. This is my first time on unemployment so I'm still learning how everything works.
