NY unemployment notice: Extended Benefits reduced to 13 weeks max, ALL federal programs (PUA, PEUC, FPUC, EB) ending September 5th, 2021

So frustrated with all the conflicting information about what happens after September 5th, 2021. From what I can tell, if you're not in your first 26 weeks of regular UI or your first 13-week extension, ALL benefits will stop, not just the extra $300. I got a notice on August 12 saying NY dropped below some federal threshold, and now Extended Benefits are only for 13 weeks max. The exact update states: "New York State has fallen below the rate established by the Federal government in order for the state to qualify for the highest level of Federal Extended Benefits (EB). Effective August 9, 2021, EB will be available for a maximum of 13 weeks." The notice also clearly states "Claimants who have received 13+ weeks of EB will no longer be eligible for EB on their existing claim after the benefit week of August 9, 2021, but may be eligible for PEUC or PUA benefits through September 5, 2021." This is what's driving me crazy - the notice says I should continue to certify weekly, and that "Claimants who will exhaust EB on their existing claim will be contacted by email and text message." But I haven't received any clear communication yet. They also included this reminder: "under Federal law, benefits through the PUA, PEUC, FPUC, and EB programs are available for eligible claimants until September 5, 2021." But what happens after that? They say we can reapply for new benefits or extensions but "most applications won't be approved." Has anyone gotten clear answers from actual people who know what's happening? The reps I talked to seemed just as confused as everyone else. I'm seriously worried about what happens in September when all these programs end. The notice even says "PLEASE SHARE WIDELY" at the bottom like they're desperate to get the info out, but the info isn't clear at all!

Im right there with you trying to understand this mess. From what I gather yeah, if youre not in the regular UI period or the first extension, were basically screwed after Sept 4. The system is so broken that even the people who work for unemployment dont understand all the rules. My benefits are about to run out in 2 weeks and im freaking out 😫

Have you been able to reach anyone on the phone? I've been trying for 3 days straight and can't get through to an actual human...

0 coins

No luck at ALL. its impossible to get a real person on the phone. Just automated messages and then it hangs up on me. soooo infuriating!

After weeks of getting nowhere with ny unemployment, I finally found a service that actually works. Used claimyr.com and got connected to a live agent within 2 hours. They handle all the calling and waiting on hold, then connect you once they get someone. Got my issues sorted in one call - talking to an agent got my benefits flowing again so fast. Check out this video to see how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

β€’

Not a scam at all! I was desperate after trying for 3 weeks to get through. They just do the waiting for you and then call when they get a rep. Saved me hours of frustration.

yeah right, another 'miracle solution'... what's the catch? πŸ™„

β€’

No catch - they just make the calls and wait on hold so you don't have to. When they get someone, they connect you. Seriously worth every penny considering I finally got my back pay sorted out.

wait hold up - does this actually work or is it just the usual BS?

I was super skeptical too but yes it actually works! They called and waited on hold (which took about 2 hours) and then my phone rang when they got through to someone. That 5 minute conversation with a real agent fixed weeks of problems.

The NYSDOL website says all federal programs (PUA, PEUC, FPUC etc) end Sept 4. If youre on regular UI, that continues. If youre on an extension or federal program, it all stops. Some people will be eligible to apply for a new regular UI claim if they have enough work history in their base period. But a lot of us are just SOL. Welcome to America πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Ok so heres the deal based on what i understand - ALL federal programs end 9/4. That includes: * The extra $300/week (FPUC) * Extended benefits beyond regular UI (PEUC) * Benefits for gig/self-employed workers If youre on regular UI (the first 26 weeks), that continues. Anything else - DONE. Unless Congress passes something new (which lol good luck with that). BUT one thing nobody talks about: if you have any pending backpay from these programs that you were eligible for BEFORE 9/4, you should still get that money eventually. They just wont pay for any weeks after 9/4.

Thx for explaining! Do u know if were supposed to keep certifying after Sept 4 if were on one of the federal programs? Just in case something changes?

0 coins

Yes! Always keep certifying as long as the system lets you. That way if they extend anything (unlikely but who knows) or if you have pending weeks, youll still be in the system.

0 coins

Thanks for breaking this down. So basically if you're in weeks 27+ you're just done?

Listen this is a total DISASTER. My family relies on these benefits and now were just supposed to... what? Find a job in 3 weeks when nobody is hiring in my field? NY unemployment is a JOKE. The website is from 1997, you cant get anyone on the phone, and they send these cryptic notices that nobody understands. Im so done with this whole system. 🀬🀬🀬

0 coins

PREACH! The whole system is designed to be confusing and difficult. They WANT people to give up.

Here's the most accurate info I can provide about what's happening with NY unemployment after speaking with multiple reps and researching extensively: The September 4th cutoff affects several programs: 1. The additional $300 weekly supplement (FPUC) ends completely 2. Programs for self-employed/gig workers end 3. Extended benefits beyond the initial 26 weeks end If you're currently receiving regular UI benefits (the first 26 weeks), those will continue until you reach your maximum benefit amount or week 26. If you're currently on any extension or federal program, those benefits stop after September 4th. No exceptions unless Congress passes new legislation. To check which program you're on, log into your account and look at your payment history. It will show which program your benefits are coming from. For those losing benefits, you MAY be eligible to file a new regular UI claim IF you have worked enough during your base period to qualify. Most people won't meet this threshold. If you're having trouble reaching a representative, I highly recommend using claimyr.com - it saved me hours of frustration by connecting me directly with an agent who could actually help resolve my issues. Keep certifying weekly as long as possible, even after Sept 4th. This ensures you'll receive any back payments you're entitled to. Don't wait until September to figure this out. Start preparing now if your benefits will be ending.

THIS!!! πŸ‘† Most helpful explanation I've seen anywhere. Thank you!

How do you know which program you're on? I can't tell from my payment history...

Look for abbreviations like "UI" (regular unemployment), "PEUC" (extension), "EB" (extended benefits) or "FPUC" (the $300 supplement). Sometimes it's not obvious - if you can't tell, definitely try to speak with a rep using claimyr.com to get clarity on your specific situation.

Anyone know what happens if you have pending weeks from before September 4? Will they still pay those or are we just screwed out of that money too?

Emma Davis

β€’

According to what I understand, you should still get paid for any weeks before Sept 4 that you were eligible for. Keep certifying and following up!

I was in the same boat last month with 8 weeks of backpay. Finally got through to a rep using claimyr.com and they released all my payments at once. Don't give up on that money!

Friendly reminder that most customer service reps are just as confused as we are. The system changes constantly and they often get contradictory information. Be nice to them - they didnt create this mess and their trying they're best to help with the info they have.

I'm actually a former temp worker who was hired during covid to process claims. Let me tell you what I know: 1) The system is ancient and breaks constantly 2) Even we couldn't understand all the eligibility rules 3) Yes, all federal programs end 9/4 - nothing we can do about it 4) If you're having issues, CALL. The online system won't fix complicated problems 5) Document EVERYTHING - dates, confirmation numbers, names of reps The best advice I can give is to be persistent but polite. And start looking for work now if your benefits are ending - don't wait until they're gone.

Thanks for the insider perspective! Any tips on the best times to call to get through?

0 coins

Early morning (7:30-8:30am) or late afternoon (4-5pm) tend to be less busy. Avoid Mondays and the day after holidays - those are the worst. But honestly, using a service like claimyr.com is your best bet to avoid the wait altogether.

For real tho do they give yall ANY training? Because every time I call I get different answers to the same question 😭

0 coins

We got about 2 weeks of training for a job that normally requires months to learn. And the rules kept changing every few days. It was chaos. That's why you get different answers - nobody knows everything in that system.

guys stop asking the same questions over and over. just read the DOL website ffs. all federal programs END sept 4. if ur on regular UI ur fine. everyone else is screwed. thats it. thats the whole answer.

I just got approved for benefits last week after waiting 2 months. Now I find out they're ending in 3 weeks?? This is some bull$#!t.

Make sure you claim backpay for all those weeks you were waiting! They should pay you for that time if you were eligible.

You need to speak with a rep directly. Use claimyr.com to get through - that's how I got my 6 weeks of backpay sorted out. Worth every penny I spent on the service.

How am I supposed to find a job when nobody in my industry is hiring yet? Restaurants and bars are still at reduced capacity, events are getting cancelled again because of delta, and I'm supposed to just... what? Switch careers overnight? Start driving for Uber in an already oversaturated market? The government is so out of touch with reality.

I feel this so hard. I've applied to 87 jobs in the past month. Got 3 interviews and no offers. The job market is NOT as great as they say on the news.

Has anyone had their account randomly locked recently? I was certifying normally last week and now suddenly I'm locked out and can't get through to anyone. Worried I won't get my last few weeks of benefits before the Sept 4 cutoff.

Same thing happened to me! They said it was for "identity verification" but I already did that 3 months ago. System is broken.

Use claimyr.com to get through to a rep. I had the same issue and they fixed it in one call. Worth the money since I would have lost way more in benefits if I couldn't certify.
