NY unemployment form deadline confusion - email said Dec 1 but letter says today?

I'm totally confused about when my unemployment DocuSign form is actually due. I got an email from NY unemployment that clearly stated December 1st, 2025 was the deadline to submit it. But now I just received a letter in the mail saying it's due TODAY! Which one is correct? Has anyone else gotten conflicting deadlines like this? I'm freaking out because I was planning to finish it this weekend but now I'm worried I'll lose my benefits if I don't submit it immediately.

This is actually a common issue with NYSDOL communications. Generally speaking, the most recent communication contains the correct deadline. If your letter came after the email, you should treat TODAY as your actual deadline. The system sometimes sends automated emails with standard timeframes, but then caseworkers may adjust deadlines based on your specific claim situation. I would complete and submit that DocuSign form immediately if possible.

Oh no! I'm at work right now and won't be able to complete it until I get home tonight. Do you think I'll lose all my benefits if it's submitted a few hours late???

same thing happened 2 me last month! the email said one date but letter said another. i just did it right away when i saw the letter and everything was fine

Thanks for sharing! Did you call them to confirm they received it or did you just trust the DocuSign confirmation?

The NYSDOL system is COMPLETELY BROKEN when it comes to notifications!!! I've had THREE different deadlines for the same form before. It's ridiculous and they expect us to just figure it out somehow. Then when you try calling to clarify, you can never get through to anyone. I've learned to just submit everything ASAP regardless of whatever date they claim is the deadline because they'll cut you off without warning.

Yep 100% this. The system is a mess. Just do everything as soon as you get ANY notice. Don't wait.

I had exact same problem but with the quarterly income verification form. Email said Jan 15 deadline but paper letter said Jan 5. I went with the earlier date just to be safe. When I checked my account later it showed the Jan 5 date was correct. I think maybe they update deadlines but don't resend emails?

That makes sense... I wish they'd be more consistent though! It's so stressful not knowing which date to trust.

I've worked with NYSDOL claims for years, and here's what's happening: The initial DocuSign email contains a standard 21-day deadline (which would be Dec 1st in your case). However, if your claim has any flags or needs expedited processing, they'll send a follow-up letter with an adjusted deadline. Here's what you should do: 1. Submit the form TODAY if possible, even after hours 2. If you absolutely cannot, submit first thing tomorrow 3. Include a brief explanation about the conflicting deadlines 4. Take screenshots of both the email and letter as evidence The good news is that there's typically a 24-48 hour grace period that isn't advertised. Just don't delay any further.

Thank you so much for the detailed explanation! That makes so much more sense now. I'll definitely submit it tonight when I get home and include a note about the conflicting dates.

When I couldn't reach anyone at unemployment about conflicting deadlines, I tried Claimyr (claimyr.com) and actually got through to a rep in about 20 minutes. They confirmed that the date on the most recent communication is always the correct one. Their video explains how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE - saved me from missing my deadline for the work search documentation when I had similar confusion.

does that really work? ive never been able to get thru on the phone no matter what time i call

Yeah, it actually does. I was skeptical too but was desperate after trying for 3 days straight to reach someone. The service connected me to the regular unemployment line but somehow bypassed the wait. The agent was able to see both deadline notices in my file and confirmed which one was correct.

just send it in ASAP and you'll be fine dont stress

I'm definitely submitting it tonight! Just worried about potential problems since it'll be after their business hours.

Quick update on deadlines - NYSDOL recently changed their DocuSign system in February 2025. Now they sometimes adjust deadlines mid-process if they're trying to clear claim backlogs. It's not ideal communication, but it's unfortunately how the system works now. As long as you submit within 24 hours of whichever notice you received last, you should be fine. They primarily want to see that you're responsive to communications.

And yet they take WEEKS to respond to anything we send them! The double standard is infuriating!!

I had to fill out that form last month too. Took me forever to figure out how to do the signature part correctly. Make sure you click the yellow tabs and actually type your name in the signature field rather than just clicking next. Mine got rejected the first time because I didn't complete all the signature spots correctly.

Thanks for the tip! I'll make sure to fill out all the signature fields properly.

Update: I submitted the form last night around 9pm and got the DocuSign confirmation email. Checked my portal this morning and it shows as received! Thanks everyone for your help and quick responses. Such a relief!

Excellent! Glad you got it submitted. For future reference, always save copies of all communications from NYSDOL with their dates visible. Having documentation of conflicting instructions can help if there's ever a dispute about timely submissions.
