NY unemployment expired card with wrong address AND forgot PIN - need urgent help

I'm in a really tough spot with my NY unemployment benefits right now. My payment card expired but I just realized the address they have for me is wrong (I moved last summer but forgot to update it with NYSDOL). To make matters worse, I completely blanked on my PIN number for accessing the system. I'm worried about missing payments while trying to sort this all out. Has anyone dealt with this triple whammy before? What's the best number to call to fix all these issues at once? The regular unemployment line never connects me to a real person!

You need to tackle these issues separately: 1. For the expired card: Call KeyBank directly at 866-295-2955 to request a replacement card. You'll need to verify your identity but they can send it to a new address. 2. For updating your address: Log in to your NY.gov account and update your contact information there. If you can't access it because of the PIN issue, proceed to step 3. 3. For the forgotten PIN: Call the PIN phone line at 888-209-8124 and follow the automated prompts for PIN reset. You'll need your SSN and other identifying information. Don't wait on this - the expired card means your benefits are probably accumulating but you can't access them!

Thank you! The problem is I can't get through on the PIN line either... it always says "due to high call volume" and disconnects me. I've tried calling every day this week at different times. Is there any special time that's better to call?

I had this exact problem last month! The key is doing things in the right order: 1) First, I had to get my PIN reset before I could do anything else. The regular unemployment number (888-209-8124) is nearly impossible to reach - I spent 3 weeks trying. 2) Once I finally got my PIN reset, I updated my address in the system. 3) Then I called KeyBank to request a new card sent to my updated address. What worked for me was using Claimyr.com to get through to an actual person at NYSDOL. You can see how it works here: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE - it got me connected to an agent in about 30 minutes after I had been trying for weeks. The agent was able to reset my PIN on the call and verify my address change went through.

I've never heard of Claimyr before. Does it really work? I'm desperate enough to try anything at this point, because I haven't been able to access my benefits for almost 3 weeks now.

Yes, it absolutely works! I was skeptical too but was at my wit's end after trying for weeks. It connected me to an actual NYSDOL rep who helped fix all my issues in one call. Much better than the endless busy signals and disconnections I was getting before.

omg i had the SAME ISSUE last month!!! so frustrating!!! the regular line is useless, i tried for like 2 weeks straight. finally got thru by calling right when they open at 8am, like literally dialing at 7:59am and hitting call at exactly 8. took like 6 attempts but finally worked. good luck!!

The whole NY unemployment system is GARBAGE by design!! They WANT you to have these problems so you'll give up on claiming what's rightfully yours. They save millions by making the system impossible to navigate. I had a similar problem and spent SIX WEEKS trying to get it resolved. SIX!!! The only thing that worked was calling my state assembly member's office. They have direct lines to DOL that regular people don't get access to. Might be worth trying along with the other suggestions here. The whole system is rigged against us!!!

This is actually good advice. I work for a state office (not NY) and we do have special contacts at various agencies. Your local representative's office can often help escalate these issues.

I think you can also try the online message center? I'm not sure if you need your pin for that tho. Maybe try the Facebook page for NYSDOL, sometimes they respond to messages there quickly.

The message center requires PIN access, so that won't work if they've forgotten their PIN. And I wouldn't recommend the Facebook route for issues involving personal information - it's not secure. The phone line is really the only proper channel for these types of account issues.

To correctly address all three issues, here's what you need to do in the proper sequence: 1. First, you MUST resolve the PIN issue before anything else can be fixed. This requires speaking with a representative. The most reliable way to reach NYSDOL is to call 888-209-8124 between 8:00-8:30am Monday-Wednesday (avoid Fridays when call volume is highest). 2. Once your PIN is reset, immediately update your address in the system through your NY.gov account. 3. For the expired card, don't call KeyBank until AFTER your address is updated in the NYSDOL system, as KeyBank verifies address information against what NYSDOL has on file. KeyBank's direct number is 866-295-2955 for the card replacement. If benefits were deposited to your expired card, don't worry - they're still there and will transfer to your new card once activated.

Thank you so much for laying it out step by step. You're right that everything hinges on fixing the PIN first. I'll try the early morning calls you suggested. Really appreciate the help!

does anyone know if they'll backpay you for the weeks you couldn't access ur benefits? or do they just say tough luck?

If you've been claiming weekly benefits on time (which you can still do even with an expired card/wrong address), then yes, all payments will be available once your card access is restored. The money isn't lost - it's just sitting there waiting for you to access it. But if you haven't been certifying weekly because of the PIN issue, you'll need to request retroactive certification for those weeks, which the agent can help with when you finally reach someone.

UPDATE: I finally got through! I used the advice about calling super early in the morning (7:59am) and got connected after my 4th attempt. They reset my PIN, updated my address, and the agent confirmed that my payments are safe and will be accessible once I get my new card. The agent told me to wait 48 hours before calling KeyBank, so the address update has time to process in their system. Thanks everyone for your help!

Great news! Smart move waiting to call KeyBank until the address update propagates through the system. Glad you got it sorted out.
