NY unemployment account unblocked - how long until payment release?

Finally got the block off my NY unemployment account after 3 weeks of calling! Anyone know how long before payments get released now?? I'm hoping it's fast since I already received payments before this mess. My account shows 4 weeks of backpay that are all 'pending payment' but no actual money in my account yet. I'm getting anxious because rent is due next week and I'm completely broke at this point.

2 days would be amazing! Did you have to do anything else or did it just automatically process?

It typically takes 2-3 business days for payments to be released after an account block is removed. Since you've received payments before, you're already verified in their system which helps. Make sure your payment method (direct deposit or debit card) is still active and hasn't expired. You should see the pending status change to 'paid' first in your payment history before the money actually arrives in your account.

Thank you! My direct deposit info is still the same. I'll keep checking the payment history. Hoping it goes through by Friday!

I WAITED 10 DAYS AND NOTHING HAPPENED!!! Had to call again and turns out they needed to manually release my payments even tho they said it would be automatic. Don't trust what they tell you - call back if you don't see anything by Monday!!!

Seriously? That's frustrating! Did they at least release all the payments at once when you called again?

Yeah they did finally release everything but I had to FIGHT for it. They tried saying one week wasn't eligible but I had proof I certified on time. The whole system is designed to make people give up!!!

Has anyone been through this recently? My account was blocked last month and I'm still waiting for it to be fixed. The agent said it would be 72 hours but it's been a week... Getting really worried now. How did you get yours unblocked?? I've called like 20 times and can't get past the automated system.

After dealing with the same issue, I found a service called Claimyr that helped me get through to an actual NY unemployment agent. They basically call and wait on hold for you, then connect you when an agent answers. I was skeptical but it worked - check out their demo: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE or website claimyr.com. Totally worth it because I got my account unblocked that same day instead of waiting for weeks.

Omg thank you!! I'll try this today. I'm desperate at this point and can't keep calling for hours every day.

Last time this happened to me (jan 2025) it took about 3-4 business days for the money to show up. But that's just my experience, might be different for u. Did they tell u why ur account got blocked in the first place?

They said it was flagged for identity verification even though I'd already been verified months ago. Something about a quarterly security check that randomly selects accounts. Just my luck I guess...

mine took a week but i think it depends on how many weeks you're owed and why it was blocked. if you're worried about rent coming up call your landlord and explain the situation. most are understanding if you can show proof that payments are pending.

Good idea about contacting my landlord. I'll send him a screenshot of the pending payments. Thanks for the suggestion!

Just to update the information I shared earlier: I just checked with a client yesterday who had their account unblocked, and they received their backpay exactly 48 hours after the block was lifted. The system seems to be processing faster now than it was in January. If you don't see a status change by Thursday morning, I'd recommend calling back. Make sure to document the date/time of your calls and the names of any representatives you speak with.

That's great news! I'll definitely keep documentation of all my calls just in case. Really appreciate the update!

UPDATE: My payments just hit my account! Took exactly 2 days and 4 hours from when the block was removed. All 4 weeks came at once. So relieved right now!

Excellent news! Glad to hear it was processed quickly. This is consistent with the current timeframes we're seeing for accounts that have previously received payments.
