Missed first week UI claim - How to backdate payments with NYDOL?
Hey everyone, I messed up and missed claiming my unemployment for the first week. Now I need to backtrack the payments for my unemployment period. Has anyone dealt with this before? What should I say when I finally get through to someone on the phone?

Ugh, been there done that. It's such a pain to deal with the unemployment office. Here's what I did when I was in your shoes: 1. Call first thing in the morning. Like, set an alarm and be ready to dial at 8:00 AM sharp. 2. When you get through, explain calmly that you missed claiming for the first week and need to backdate your claim. 3. Be prepared with all your info - dates, previous wages, etc. 4. If the first person can't help, politely ask to speak with a supervisor. Good luck! The system is a mess, but hang in there.

•This is solid advice 💯 I'd add: document EVERYTHING. Write down who you talked to, when, and what they said. It'll save your butt if theres any discrepancies later.

•Calling at 8 AM sharp never worked for me. Always got the 'all lines are busy' message. Any other tips for actually getting through?

•Yeah, it can be hit or miss. Sometimes I had to redial for an hour straight. It's frustrating, but persistence is key. Also, try calling on a Tuesday or Wednesday - seems to be less busy than Mondays.

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

•$20? That's highway robbery! The unemployment office should be accessible for free!

•I get the skepticism, but after spending hours trying to get through, $20 was worth it to me. It's not ideal, but it worked when I was desperate.

Have you tried reaching out on Twitter? Sometimes they respond faster there. Worth a shot!

•This! I got a response within a day when I tweeted at them. Make sure to not include any personal info in the public tweet tho.

Protip: When you call, immediately ask for a tier 2 specialist. The first-level reps often can't help with backdating claims.

•This is the way. Tier 2 specialists are the real MVPs. Saved me hours of frustration.

Am I the only one who thinks its ridiculous that we have to jump through so many hoops just to get what we're entitled to? The whole system needs an overhaul smh

•Preach! 🙌 It's like they make it difficult on purpose to discourage people from claiming.

•Totally agree. We need to start contacting our representatives about this. It's unacceptable.
