How to get NY unemployment payment stubs for verification? Can't find them online

I need copies of my unemployment payment stubs for a rental application but I can't figure out where to find them. I've logged into my NY unemployment account and can only see the payment history showing dates and amounts. Is there a way to get actual paystubs or some kind of official document showing my unemployment income? The rental office won't accept just screenshots of the payment history page. Has anyone had to get these before? Thanks!

they dont have actual paystubs like from a job. just print the payment history page and it should work. thats what i did

The rental office specifically told me they need something more official than just the payment history page. They said they need something with my name, address, and benefit amount all on the same document.

i went thru this nightmare last year!! the whole system is designed to make u feel crazy. there aren't actual "paystubs" but you CAN request a benefit payment history statement! Go to your account, then click on "Payment History" and then look for "Print 1099-G" (even if you don't need the tax form). On THAT page there should be an option to request a formal payment history statement.

Thank you! I'll look for that option when I get home. Do you remember how long it took to get the statement after you requested it?

i think it took like 5-7 days to come in the mail? they don't email it to u which is STUPID but whatever. hope it works for u!

You need to request an official Benefit Payment History statement. This is different from just viewing your payment history online. Here's how to get it: 1. Log into your NY.gov account 2. Go to the Unemployment Insurance section 3. Select "View Payment History" 4. At the bottom of that page, there's a link to "Request Official Payment History" 5. Complete the form with your information 6. They'll mail you the official document within 7-10 business days This official statement includes your name, address, weekly benefit amount, and payment history - everything the rental office would need.

This is exactly what I needed! I can't believe they don't make this more obvious on the website. I'll submit the request right away. Thank you so much!

I went through this exact same thing in February! The NYSDOL website is SO confusing and finding anything is impossible. I tried calling for three days straight but could never get through to an actual person. Ended up using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an agent - took like 20 minutes instead of days of trying. The agent was able to generate and email me an official payment statement right on the call. You can see how it works in their demo video: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE Saved me from potentially losing my apartment!

is that service legit? seems sketchy to pay someone just to talk to unemployment

Thanks for the info. I'll try requesting it online first, but if that takes too long I might try your method. The rental application is due by the end of next week so I don't have much time.

Just want to mention something - I got one of those statements last month and it came in 3 days, not the 7-10 they say on the website. So maybe you'll get lucky too!

There's another option that many people don't know about. You can request a "Monetary Determination Letter" which shows your weekly benefit amount and your total benefit entitlement. This is often acceptable for proof of income purposes. To request this: 1. Call the NYSDOL at 888-209-8124 2. Use the automated system to request a duplicate of your Monetary Determination Letter 3. This can be mailed to you or in some cases emailed if you have email set up in your account preferences Also worth noting that if you've already received benefits for several weeks, your bank statements showing the deposits can sometimes serve as supplementary documentation for your rental application.

That's a great idea about the Monetary Determination Letter! Do you know if they can email it rather than mail it? I'm concerned about the timing.

It depends on your account settings. If you've opted for electronic correspondence (you can check in your NY.gov profile settings), then yes, they can email it. If not, you'd need to update your preferences first, which might add time to the process.

I had to do this for a car loan in January this year and it was SUCH a hassle!! I waited 2 weeks for the letter to arrive and it never came. Had to start all over again. The entire NY unemployment system should be completely rebuilt from scratch!!!! Why can't they just have a button that generates an official PDF that you can download instantly??? Every other modern system works this way. So frustrating.

PREACH!!! the whole system is stuck in 1995 i swear

That's useful to know! Do you happen to know which office she went to? I'm in Buffalo so hopefully there's one nearby.

So did you get your documents? Which method worked best?

I ended up requesting the official payment history statement online and also went to the local office as a backup plan. The office was actually able to print it for me on the spot! Thanks everyone for all your help!

Glad you got it sorted out! For anyone else reading this thread - calling ahead to the local office to confirm they can print the documents on the spot is definitely recommended. Some locations might not have the same capabilities or might require appointments. Also worth noting that if you do go in person, bring a photo ID and your social security card just in case they need additional verification.

Great advice about calling ahead! I just went through this process myself last month and wish I had known to bring my social security card. The office I went to required it for verification even though I had my driver's license. Also, if anyone is reading this and needs the documents urgently, ask specifically about getting a "certified" copy - some landlords or lenders prefer that over regular printouts.

Just want to add another tip for anyone in this situation - if you're dealing with a tight deadline like OP was, you can also ask your caseworker (if you have one assigned) to email you an unofficial summary of your benefits. While this won't work for all purposes, some rental offices will accept it as interim documentation while you wait for the official paperwork. I had to do this when my landlord needed proof quickly for a lease renewal. The caseworker was able to send me a simple email stating my weekly benefit amount and dates of coverage, which bought me time until the official documents arrived. Obviously this depends on having a responsive caseworker, but worth trying if you're in a pinch!
