How to get EDD payment proof/check stub for my landlord?
I've been receiving unemployment benefits for about a month now, but my landlord is asking for proof of income. I tried explaining that I'm on unemployment, but he says he needs to see an actual 'pay stub' or some kind of official document showing the payment amounts. Do we get anything like that from EDD? Can I download some kind of check stub or payment verification from UI Online? My rent is due next week and I really need to show him something official. Has anyone had to provide proof of EDD payments before?

•Thanks! Do you remember exactly where in payment history? I'm looking but don't see a print option anywhere.

You can absolutely get proof of your EDD payments. Log into your UI Online account and go to 'Payment History'. From there, you can view your payment details for each week. You should see a printer icon that allows you to print or save as PDF your payment information. This works as an official record of your unemployment income. Alternatively, you can request an official payment verification letter from EDD by calling them. The letter will show all payments made to you and can be used as proof of income for landlords, lenders, or government assistance programs.

•This is exactly right! I did this last year when I refinanced my car loan. The loan officer accepted the printed payment history with no problems. Just make sure to print multiple weeks to show the consistent income.

•Thank you so much for the detailed instructions! I finally found the printer icon. It was so small I kept missing it. My landlord should accept this!

I had same issue with my property management company!! The payment history PDF from UI Online wasn't enough for them - they wanted an "official letter" 🙄 I ended up having to call EDD to request a proper verification letter. Took me 3 DAYS of calling to finally get through to someone who could help me. So frustrating!!!

•OMG I hope my landlord accepts the payment history! I don't think I can get through on the phone before my rent is due. Did you have to explain your situation to several people before you got help?

•YES it was a NIGHTMARE!!! First they transfer you to someone who can't help, then they transfer you again, then they hang up on you, then you call back and START OVER. I was losing my mind!!!

After struggling for days to reach EDD by phone about getting an official verification letter, I finally tried Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got through to an EDD rep in about 20 minutes. They have this service that bypasses the hold times and actually connects you with an agent. Watched their demo video (https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km) and decided to try it after wasting hours on hold. The EDD rep I spoke with was able to send me an official payment verification letter right away. Saved me so much stress with my apartment manager who wouldn't accept the UI Online printouts.

•I've never heard of this service before. Does it really work? My patience is already wearing thin trying to navigate the UI Online system.

•Yes, it worked for me after I tried calling on my own for 3 days straight. They got me through to someone who could actually help with the verification letter. Way better than getting the "we're experiencing high call volume" message over and over again.

I work in property management, and I can tell you that most landlords will accept the Payment History printout from UI Online as proof of income. Make sure you include all your recent payments (at least 4 weeks) to show consistency. The printout should show your name, payment amounts, and dates - all the essential information a landlord needs. If your landlord specifically requires an official letter, you'll need to contact EDD directly to request a verification of benefits letter. This is a more formal document that verifies your weekly benefit amount and claim period. But honestly, the UI Online printout should be sufficient for most rental situations unless they have some unusual requirements.

•This isnt always true!!!! My landlord REFUSED the online printout and said it could be faked!!! They made me get the official letter which took foeever to get!!! So frustrating how they treat people on unemplyment like were all trying to scam them or something??!?!

wait can somone clarify the difference between the payment history printout and the verification letter? im confused about which one is which bc i need to show proof for my food stamps application

•The payment history printout is something you can generate yourself from your UI Online account. It shows your past payments but doesn't have an official letterhead. The verification letter is an official document from EDD that verifies your benefit amount and claim period. It comes on EDD letterhead and is generally considered more official. For food stamps/CalFresh, either should work, but the verification letter might be preferred. You can request it by calling EDD directly.

Update: I printed out 6 weeks of payment history from UI Online and brought it to my landlord. He looked it over and said it was fine! Thanks everyone for your help. For anyone else who needs this in the future - the print button is a tiny icon on the Payment History page that's easy to miss. Make sure to include multiple weeks of payments to show it's consistent income.

•That's great news! Glad it worked out without having to go through the hassle of calling EDD 👍

Awesome that you got it sorted out @Paolo! For future reference, you can also screenshot or save the payment history page as a PDF if the print button isn't working. Some landlords are more familiar with unemployment documentation now since so many people were on benefits during the pandemic. Glad your landlord was reasonable about it!

•That's a great tip about saving as PDF! I'm new to all this unemployment stuff and honestly didn't even know we could get proof of payments until I saw this thread. Really helpful to know landlords are getting more familiar with unemployment docs these days. Makes the whole process less stressful when you're already dealing with job hunting and everything else.

Just wanted to add that if you're still having trouble finding the print option, try using a different browser or clearing your cache. Sometimes the UI Online site can be glitchy. Also, when you do print the payment history, make sure to include the page that shows your personal info (name, claim number, etc.) along with the payment details - some landlords want to see everything matches up. I've helped a few friends with this and having all the documentation together in one packet usually does the trick!

•This is super helpful! I just went through something similar and you're totally right about including the personal info page. My property manager wanted to see that everything matched up too. The browser tip is spot on - I had to switch from Chrome to Firefox because the print button wasn't showing up properly. It's crazy how these little technical glitches can cause so much stress when you're already worried about rent!

Pro tip for anyone still struggling with this - if you're having trouble with the UI Online site being slow or glitchy, try accessing it early in the morning (like 6-7 AM) when fewer people are online. The site runs much smoother then and all the buttons actually work properly. I learned this the hard way after spending hours trying to print my payment history during peak times. Also, if your landlord gives you any pushback about unemployment being "temporary income," remind them that it's still guaranteed government income that shows up consistently every week. Some landlords don't realize how reliable EDD payments actually are once you're in the system.

•That's such a good point about accessing UI Online early in the morning! I wish I had known that when I was trying to get my payment history - I spent forever waiting for pages to load during lunch time. And you're absolutely right about EDD payments being reliable income. I think some landlords still have outdated ideas about unemployment benefits from years ago when the system was different. These days, once you're approved and certifying regularly, those payments come like clockwork every two weeks.

•Absolutely agree about the early morning access! I've been dealing with UI Online for a few months now and that 6-7 AM window is golden. The site actually loads fast and all the features work properly. I also want to emphasize your point about EDD payments being reliable - I've been getting mine every two weeks like clockwork since I got approved. When I had to provide income verification for my car insurance discount, the agent said EDD documentation is just as valid as regular employment pay stubs. It's frustrating that some landlords still treat unemployment income like it's unreliable when it's literally backed by the state government.

Something I learned recently that might help future people reading this thread - if you need multiple copies of your payment verification (like for different applications or landlords), you can actually download the payment history as a PDF file instead of just printing it. Just look for the "Download" or "Save as PDF" option when you click that little printer icon. That way you have a digital copy you can email or print as many times as needed without having to log back into UI Online each time. I had to provide proof of income for three different things last month (apartment application, utility assistance program, and my kids' school lunch program) and having that PDF saved me so much time!

•That's such a smart tip about saving as PDF! I wish I had thought of that - I've been logging back into UI Online every time I need to print another copy. Having a saved PDF would definitely be way more convenient, especially when you're applying to multiple places. Thanks for sharing that, I'll definitely do that next time I need to pull my payment history!

Just wanted to share another option for anyone still having trouble - some EDD offices actually have self-service kiosks where you can print official documents including payment verification letters. I discovered this when I went to my local office for something else. The kiosk was way faster than trying to get through on the phone, and the printed document had the official EDD letterhead which satisfied my picky landlord. Not all offices have these kiosks, but it's worth calling ahead to ask if yours does. Could save you hours of phone hold time!

•Wow, I had no idea EDD offices had self-service kiosks! That's actually brilliant - getting an official letterhead document without having to deal with phone hold times sounds like a dream. Do you know if the kiosks require any special login info or if you just use your regular UI Online credentials? I might try to find one of these before my next rental application since some property management companies seem to really prefer the official letterhead format over the online printouts.

•@b181b82779d9 That's awesome info about the kiosks! I've been dreading having to call EDD for an official letter. Do you remember which office you went to? I'm in the LA area and wondering if the bigger offices are more likely to have them. Also curious if there are any fees for using the kiosk or if it's free like the online printouts?

•@b181b82779d9 This is such valuable information! I had no idea these kiosks existed. Do you happen to know what documents you need to bring with you to use the kiosk? I'm assuming you need some form of ID and maybe your claim information? Also wondering if the kiosks are available during regular business hours or if they have extended access. This could be a game changer for people who can't get through on the phones!

I actually work at an EDD office and can clarify about the kiosks - they're available at most of the larger offices but not all locations have them yet. You'll need your SSN, claim number, and a valid ID to access the kiosk. The service is free, just like using UI Online. The kiosks are available during regular office hours (usually 8 AM to 5 PM Monday-Friday). The documents printed from the kiosks have the official EDD letterhead and seal, which is exactly what most landlords and agencies want to see. If you call your local office ahead of time, they can tell you if they have a kiosk available and what the current wait times are like. Way better than sitting on hold for hours!

•This is incredibly helpful information! Thank you for sharing your insider knowledge about the kiosks. I had no idea EDD offices had these self-service options. Do you know if there's a way to find out which offices have kiosks without having to call each one individually? Maybe on the EDD website or something? I'm in the Bay Area and would love to find the closest location with a kiosk rather than dealing with the phone system. The fact that they print with official letterhead and seal is exactly what I need for my upcoming apartment application!

I've been following this thread and it's been so helpful! I'm in a similar situation where I need proof of EDD payments for multiple things - apartment application, child care assistance, and healthcare premium reductions. One thing I discovered that might help others is that you can actually request a "Monetary Determination" letter through UI Online which shows your approved weekly benefit amount and claim duration. It's different from the payment history printout and has more official language that some agencies prefer. You can find it under the "Claim Information" section rather than Payment History. It takes a few days to generate but gets mailed to you automatically. This might be a good middle ground between the basic printout and having to call for the full verification letter!

•This is such great additional info! I didn't know about the Monetary Determination letter option. That sounds like it might be perfect for situations where landlords want something more official than the payment history but you can't get through to EDD on the phone. Do you know if there's a fee for requesting the Monetary Determination letter, or is it free like the other online documents? I'm dealing with a property manager who keeps asking for "more official documentation" so this could be exactly what I need!

•@Ruby Garcia This is exactly what I needed to know! I ve'been struggling with my property management company who keeps rejecting the basic payment history printout. The Monetary Determination letter sounds perfect since it has more official language. Is it easy to find in the UI Online interface? I sometimes have trouble navigating around that site - it s'not the most user-friendly. Also, do you know approximately how long it takes to arrive by mail? My lease renewal is coming up soon and I want to make sure I have enough time to receive it before the deadline.

•@Ruby Garcia That s'really helpful info about the Monetary Determination letter! I had no idea that was an option through UI Online. I m'dealing with a landlord who keeps saying the payment history doesn "t'look official enough so" this could be perfect. Quick question - when you say it gets mailed automatically, do you mean it comes to your regular mailing address on file with EDD? And is there any way to track when it gets sent out? I m'always worried about mail getting lost, especially important documents like this. Thanks for sharing this tip - you might have just saved me hours of trying to get through on the EDD phone lines!

•@Ruby Garcia This is amazing information! I ve'been dealing with EDD paperwork for months and never knew about the Monetary Determination letter option. Just to clarify - when you request it through the Claim "Information section," does it show up as a specific button or link? I want to make sure I m'looking in the right place. Also, does the letter show both your weekly benefit amount AND your total claim balance, or just the weekly amount? My apartment complex specifically asked for documentation showing ongoing "benefit eligibility so" I want to make sure this covers what they need. Really appreciate you sharing this tip - it could save so many people the headache of calling EDD!
