How to get unemployment pay stubs from Washington ESD - need proof of benefits
I need to get copies of my unemployment pay stubs from Washington ESD for my apartment application. The landlord is asking for proof of my unemployment benefits as income verification. I've been getting direct deposit so I don't have physical pay stubs. Does anyone know how to get these from Washington ESD? I tried looking on the secure website but can't find where to download them.

You can get your unemployment payment history through your SecureAccess Washington account. Log into eServices and look for 'Payment History' or 'Benefit Payment Information' section. It should show all your payments with dates and amounts.

•Thanks! I found the payment history but it's just a basic list. Do you know if there's a way to get something that looks more like an actual pay stub?

•The payment history printout should be sufficient for most landlords. It shows the payment dates, amounts, and comes from the official Washington ESD system.

I had this same issue last month! You need to go to the 'Unemployment Services' section in your account and look for 'View Payment Details' or something similar. You can print out a summary that shows your weekly benefit amount and payment dates.

•Perfect, I'll look for that section. Did your landlord accept that as proof of income?

•Yes they did! Make sure you print the version that shows your weekly benefit amount clearly. Some landlords want to see consistent income amounts.

If you're having trouble navigating the Washington ESD website or can't find the right section, you might want to try calling them directly. I know their phone lines are usually swamped, but I recently discovered this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helps people get through to ESD agents faster. They have a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. Might be worth checking out if you need to speak to someone about getting the right documentation.

•Thanks for the suggestion! I'll try the online route first but good to know there's an option if I can't figure it out.

•I used Claimyr when I had issues with my claim status. It actually worked pretty well for getting through to someone at Washington ESD.

Check your email too - Washington ESD sometimes sends confirmation emails when payments are processed. Those emails might work as proof of payment if you can't find the official documents.

•Good idea! I do get those confirmation emails. They might be enough for the landlord.

•Just make sure the emails show your full name and the payment amounts clearly. Some landlords are picky about the format.

•I know it's frustrating but once you find the right section it's pretty straightforward. The website layout could definitely be better though.

•yeah i guess... still annoying that they dont just mail out actual pay stubs like regular jobs do

If you need something that looks more official, you can also request a 'Benefits Statement' from Washington ESD. This is different from the payment history and includes more detailed information about your claim. You might need to call for this though.

•That sounds like exactly what I need! Do you know if there's a specific form I need to request or just ask for a benefits statement?

•Just ask for a benefits statement or verification of benefits. They should know what you mean. It includes your weekly benefit amount, claim dates, and total benefits paid.

Make sure whatever document you get includes your Social Security number (or at least the last 4 digits) and your full name. Landlords usually want to verify it's actually your income and not someone else's.

•Good point! I'll double check that before submitting it to the landlord.

•Also check if they want current benefits or historical. Some want to see a few months of payment history to verify consistency.

I had to do this for a mortgage application last year. The payment history from the Washington ESD website worked fine, but I also got a letter from them confirming my benefits. The letter was more official looking than the printout from the website.

•How did you get the letter? Did you have to request it specifically?

•I called and asked for a benefits verification letter. Took about a week to get it in the mail, so plan ahead if you need it quickly.

Just a heads up - some landlords don't accept unemployment as qualifying income at all, so you might want to check that first before going through all the trouble of getting the documentation.

•The landlord already said they'll accept it as long as I can provide proof. But thanks for the warning!

•Yeah that's important to check. Some places have policies against unemployment income even though it's legal income.

The easiest way is definitely through your online account. Log in, go to 'Claim Summary' and there should be a link for 'Payment History' or 'Benefit Payments'. You can print that page and it shows all your payment dates and amounts in a clean format.

•Thanks! I'll try that path. Hopefully it's clear enough for the landlord.

•If that doesn't work, the customer service line can email you a more detailed statement. Though getting through can be tough during busy times.

I'm dealing with the same thing for a loan application. Washington ESD really should make this easier - every other state I've lived in had better documentation options for unemployment benefits.

•What did you end up using for your loan? I might need something similar soon.

•I got the payment history printout from the website plus a verification letter I requested by phone. The bank accepted both together as proof of income.

Pro tip: if you're printing from the website, make sure to print the full page with the Washington ESD header and footer visible. Some places want to see it's from the official source.

Nia Wilson
•Great advice! I'll make sure to include all the official headers when I print it out.

•And save it as a PDF too in case you need to email it to anyone else later.

If you're still having trouble with the website, I had success using that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier. They helped me get through to a Washington ESD rep who walked me through finding the right documents in my account. Way easier than trying to figure it out myself.

•That's good to know! I'll keep that as a backup option if I can't find what I need online.

•How much did that service cost? I might need help with my claim issues too.

•It was reasonable for what I got - basically saved me hours of trying to call Washington ESD myself. Worth it when you really need to talk to someone.

Update: I found the payment history section and was able to print out a clean summary of all my unemployment payments. The landlord accepted it no problem! Thanks everyone for the help.

For future reference, you can also request these documents through the mail if you prefer physical copies. Just call the customer service line and ask them to mail you a benefit payment statement.

•How long does that usually take to arrive in the mail?

•Usually 7-10 business days in my experience. So if you need it urgently, the online version is definitely faster.

Another option if you need something that looks more professional is to ask Washington ESD for a "Monetary Determination" letter. This document shows your weekly benefit amount, total benefit year amount, and claim dates in an official letterhead format. I used this for a rental application and it looked much more formal than the basic payment history printout. You can request it through your online account under "Correspondence" or by calling their customer service line. It usually generates pretty quickly online.

•That's really helpful! I didn't know about the Monetary Determination letter option. That sounds like it would be perfect for situations where you need something that looks more official than just a payment history printout. I'll definitely keep this in mind for future reference - having it on official letterhead would probably make landlords and lenders more comfortable accepting it as income verification.
