How to check unemployment status when NYS Department of Labor website keeps crashing?
I've been trying to check my unemployment claim status for the past week but the my.ny.gov website keeps timing out or showing error messages. Filed my initial claim about 10 days ago and haven't heard anything back. My account shows I have a claim number but when I try to check the status it just says 'system temporarily unavailable.' Anyone else having these issues? Is there another way to check if my claim is being processed or if I need to submit additional documents?

The website has been really unstable lately. You can check your claim status a few different ways: 1) Keep trying the my.ny.gov portal during off-peak hours (early morning works best), 2) Call the NYS Department of Labor claims center at 888-209-8124, though expect long wait times, or 3) Check if you received any correspondence in your online message center. Your claim is probably processing normally - 10 days isn't unusual for initial review.

•Thanks! I'll try logging in early tomorrow morning. Do you know if they send email notifications when the status changes or do I have to keep checking manually?

I had similar problems last month and found that using a different browser helped. If you're using Chrome, try Firefox or Edge. Also clear your browser cache and cookies for the my.ny.gov site. The system seems to have issues with stored login data sometimes. If all else fails, I actually found a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helps you get through to NYS Department of Labor agents by phone. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. Saved me hours of calling and getting disconnected.

•Never heard of that service before. Does it actually work or is it just another scam? Getting through to someone at NYS Department of Labor is nearly impossible these days.

•It's legit - I was skeptical too but it actually connected me to an agent in about 20 minutes. Way better than spending all day redialing the main number and getting busy signals.

The NYS Department of Labor website is absolute garbage. They spent millions on this new system and it works worse than the old one. I've been dealing with unemployment claims for years and this is the worst I've seen it. You shouldn't have to jump through hoops just to check your claim status!

oh i know exactly what youre talking about! try using your phone instead of computer sometimes that works better for some reason. also if you have the claim number you can sometimes get status info by calling the automated line

•Good idea about trying mobile. What's the automated line number? Is it different from the main claims number?

Just wanted to say I feel your pain. Been there myself when I was between jobs last year. The waiting and not knowing is the worst part but hang in there!
