I submitted my unemployment application on my.ny.gov about 10 days ago and I'm wondering how many weeks it typically takes to actually start receiving benefits? My claim status shows 'under review' and I haven't heard anything back yet. I'm getting really stressed about my bills piling up. Does anyone know the usual timeline for NYS Department of Labor to process new claims? I made sure to answer all the questions correctly and uploaded my ID verification documents right away.

Make sure you're filing your weekly claims even while your initial claim is being processed! A lot of people miss this step and then lose out on benefits for those weeks. You should be able to file weekly claims on the my.ny.gov portal even if your main claim hasn't been approved yet.

Just want to add that even after your claim gets approved, there's usually a one-week waiting period before you actually receive your first payment. So factor that into your timeline as well. The whole process from application to first payment can easily be 3-4 weeks minimum.
