How long after NY unemployment shows 'released' will money hit my Varo account?

Finally got my back pay approved after fighting with the system for almost 3 months. My account is showing the funds were released on October 15th and I use Varo bank for direct deposit. Anyone know how long it typically takes for the money to actually show up in my account? I've got bills piling up and my landlord breathing down my neck. This waiting game is killing me.

Congrats on getting your backpay! With Varo, I usually see my deposits 1-2 days after the release date. Sometimes even same day if it's released early enough. But it also depends on when the release actually happened - if it was late in the day on the 15th, it might take til tomorrow. Hope you get it soon!

Thanks for the info! The status changed around 3pm yesterday, so hopefully that means I'll see it by tomorrow. Fingers crossed 🤞

varo usually drops faster than traditional banks, at least it did for me. you should have it by tomorrow morning latest.

After months of not getting through to ny unemployment, I found this calling service at claimyr.com and got a callback with an actual human agent on the phone! They fixed my release issue in minutes and my money hit my account next day. Check out this video about how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE - talking to an agent got my funds unlocked so fast.

uhh does this actually work? sounds too good to be true 🤔

0 coins

100% worked for me! I was skeptical too but was desperate after trying to get through for weeks. The callback came in about 2 hours and the agent fixed everything right away.

another day, another company promising to fix the unfixable unemployment system lol

0 coins

I get the skepticism, I really do. But after 6 weeks of trying to reach someone, this was the only thing that worked. No personal info needed either, just schedules the call for you.

0 coins

wait so how does it work exactly? they just call for you?

0 coins

Yeah basically they have some system that calls and navigates the phone tree, stays on hold for you, then connects you when a real person answers. Saved me literally hours of waiting on hold.

If status shows released on the 15th and its now the 17th, you should call them ASAP. Something might be wrong. Normally takes max 1 business day to hit accounts. Don't wait!

Oh no, that's not what I wanted to hear 😬 I'll try calling tomorrow if nothing shows up

Hi, experienced unemployment recipient here! LOL. This is my third time on unemployment in NY (thanks economy 😭). Here's what I know: Varo typically shows deposits 1-2 business days after release. Since yours was released on the 15th, you should see it by the 17th at the latest, assuming the 15th and 16th were business days. If tomorrow passes with no deposit, definitely contact NYSDOL! Also, make sure your direct deposit info is correctly entered in your account. Double check that. I once had mine going to an old closed account and had to wait weeks for a paper check instead. One more thing - if this is your FIRST payment, it sometimes takes a bit longer as they're setting everything up in their system. Subsequent payments are more predictable. Hope this helps! Hang in there, I know how stressful the waiting game is.

Thanks for the detailed response! This is actually my first payment (including all the backpay). That might explain the delay.

0 coins

Oh yeah, first payments definitely can take an extra day or two. The system is... let's just say not the most efficient 🙄 Let us know when it hits!

I use varo too. It usually takes 2 days after it says released. But I've had it take 5 days before for no reason. The system is so unpredictable its annoying.

It depends on whether weekends are involved. If the 15th was a Friday, you might not see it until Monday or Tuesday because banks don't process over weekends. also some banks hold the funds an extra day which is super annoying when ur broke

0 coins

The 15th was a Tuesday, so hopefully that means I'll see it soon!

0 coins

Check if ur bank account info is correct on the website. I had mine released but it turned out my account number had a typo and i had to wait 2 more weeks for them to fix it 💀

0 coins

Just double-checked and everything looks correct on my end. That must have been so frustrating for you though!

0 coins

OMG it was the WORST. Especially when they told me there was nothing they could do to speed it up. hope yours comes through quick tho!

0 coins

When mine shows released it usually takes 2-3 days to hit my account. Don't panic yet. The system is slow af but it works... eventually 😒

0 coins

has anyone else noticed that ny unemployment payments are coming slower recently? used to be next day for me but my last two payments took 3 days after release date. wonder if they changed something in there system

0 coins

YES! I thought it was just me. My payments are definitely taking longer since like August or September. Used to be next day, now it's consistently 2-3 days. No explanation from them either.

0 coins

same here. i think theyre short staffed or something. everything is taking longer lately

0 coins

glad to know im not crazy! wish they would communicate better when theres changes

0 coins

i went thru the exact same thing last month! showed released on a tuesday and didn't hit my varo account until friday morning. i was freaking out but it eventually came through. the waiting sucks when you've got bills due tho

0 coins

That's reassuring to hear! I guess I need to be more patient 😅

Try calling them. Nobody on Reddit can give you a definite answer because everyone's situation is different. I've found that claimyr.com is the ONLY way to actually get through to a rep. Spent my whole day on hold before finding that service.

0 coins

how long did it take for someone to answer with that service?

0 coins

I got a callback in like 90 minutes. Way better than the 4+ hours I was on hold before that.

0 coins

This just happened to my roomate! Money didnt show up for almost a week after it said released. Then randomly appeared at like 2am on a tuesday. Makes no sense but it should come eventually.

0 coins

once it says released your money is on the way 100%. its just a matter of when, but u will get it. my advise is dont check ur account every 5 mins or ul drive urself crazy lol

0 coins

OK so everyone else is talking about timelines but I wanna address something else - make sure you have enough to cover all your bills that are due immediately! Sometimes even after release they can put a hold on your account for random verification, and your payment could be delayed weeks. Happened to me in April. Just want you to be prepared for worst case scenario 🙏

0 coins

Thanks for the warning. I've been trying to work out payment plans with everyone I owe. Really hoping it doesn't come to that though!

0 coins

If you really need that money ASAP and can't wait, call them! But good luck getting through... their phone system is a nightmare. I spent 6 hours trying before I found claimyr.com to get someone on the phone. It was the only way I could talk to a live agent who could actually help me.

not falling for another unemployment 'hack'... these never work

0 coins

This isn't a hack, it's just a service that waits on hold for you. Unemployment offices are always overwhelmed... this just saves you from wasting hours listening to that awful hold music. It worked for me when nothing else did.

Something to keep in mind - every bank processes deposits differently. Varo is usually pretty quick (they're definitely better than Chase or BofA), but if this is the first direct deposit going to your Varo account from unemployment, it might take an extra day while their system verifies everything.

I'm dealing with this same EXACT situation right now!!! My payment was released Monday and still nothing in my account today (Thursday). Called NYSDOL and they said everything looks fine on their end and to just wait. So frustrating when the bills are piling up. Let me know when yours finally hits so I can get some hope lol

0 coins

Will do! This waiting game is the worst part of the whole unemployment process.

Hey there! I've been through this exact same situation with Varo and NY unemployment. From my experience, it usually takes 1-3 business days after the "released" status shows up. Since you mentioned it was released on the 15th (Tuesday), I'd expect to see it by today or tomorrow at the latest. The fact that this is your first payment (including backpay) might add an extra day or two to the process - the system sometimes takes longer to set up that initial direct deposit connection. I know the waiting is absolutely brutal when you've got bills breathing down your neck. If it doesn't show up by tomorrow, definitely give them a call just to make sure there are no issues with your banking info. But try not to stress too much - once it says "released" the money is definitely coming your way! Hang in there 💪
