How long after I verify my identity with unemployment will I get paid - NYS Department of Labor timeline?

I finally completed the identity verification process with NYS Department of Labor last Tuesday after being stuck for almost 6 weeks. My claim status changed from 'pending verification' to 'adjudication in progress' but I still haven't received any payments. Does anyone know how long it typically takes after you verify your identity to actually get your money? I've been waiting so long and really need these payments to catch up on bills. My weekly claims are all showing as filed but with $0 amounts.

The identity verification usually takes 3-5 business days to process fully in the system, but then your claim still needs to go through regular adjudication if there are any other issues. Check your my.ny.gov account to see if there are any other requirements listed under 'To Do' items. Sometimes there are additional steps needed even after ID verification.

I checked and don't see any other to-do items. Just says adjudication in progress. Should I call them or just wait it out?

same thing happened to me in december! took about 2 weeks after ID verification before i got my first payment. then they released all the back weeks at once which was nice. the waiting is the worst part

Identity verification doesn't automatically release payments - your claim still needs to complete the adjudication process. NYS Department of Labor has to review your work history, separation reason, and eligibility. This can take anywhere from 1-4 weeks depending on their current workload. If you've been waiting more than 2 weeks since ID verification, you should definitely try calling to check on the status.

I've tried calling but can never get through. The automated system just says high call volume and hangs up. Any tips for actually reaching someone?

I had the same problem trying to reach NYS Department of Labor for weeks. Someone on here mentioned Claimyr (claimyr.com) which basically calls for you and gets you connected to an agent. I was skeptical but tried it and actually got through in like 20 minutes. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Might be worth checking out if you're stuck like I was.

Identity verification is just ONE step in the process. NYS Department of Labor still has to verify your employment history, review your separation, make sure you're meeting job search requirements, etc. I work in HR and see this confusion all the time - people think ID verification = instant payment but that's not how it works.

UGHHH this system is so broken!! I've been waiting 8 weeks total and still nothing. How are people supposed to survive while they take their sweet time?? The whole thing is ridiculous.

I feel you on the frustration but complaining won't speed it up unfortunately. The system is overwhelmed but it does eventually work.

I'm in a similar situation - completed ID verification about 10 days ago and still waiting. From what I've gathered reading through forums and talking to others, the timeline seems pretty inconsistent. Some people get payments within a week, others wait 3-4 weeks. It really depends on your specific case and how backed up they are. The "adjudication in progress" status means they're reviewing your claim details beyond just identity. I'd suggest documenting all your dates (when you applied, when you completed ID verification, etc.) so you have a clear timeline if you do need to call. Hang in there - it's frustrating but most people do eventually get their back payments once it processes.

Thanks for the detailed breakdown! It's helpful to know the timeline can vary so much. I've been keeping track of dates like you suggested - applied March 15th, got stuck on ID verification April 1st, finally completed it last Tuesday (May 20th). So I'm at about 10 days post-verification now. Really hoping I'm in the "within a week" category rather than the 3-4 weeks group, but I guess I'll just have to be patient. The back payment should be substantial since I've been waiting so long, so that's something to look forward to at least.

I went through this exact same process earlier this year. After ID verification was complete, it took about 12 days before I saw my first payment hit my account. The "adjudication in progress" status is normal - they're basically doing a final review of your entire claim to make sure everything checks out. Once it switches to "approved" or shows payment amounts on your weekly claims, you should see the money within 2-3 business days. The good news is when it does come through, you'll get all the back weeks at once. I know the waiting is brutal when you need the money, but based on your timeline (verification completed last Tuesday), I'd expect to see movement by early next week if everything goes smoothly.

This is really reassuring to hear from someone who went through the same thing! 12 days post-verification gives me hope that I might see something soon since I'm already at 10 days. It's good to know the "adjudication in progress" status is normal and not a red flag. I'll keep checking my account daily for any status changes. Thanks for sharing your timeline - it helps to have realistic expectations rather than just hoping it happens overnight.

I'm going through this same waiting game right now too! Completed my ID verification about a week ago and still stuck on "adjudication in progress." It's reassuring to see others in similar situations and get some realistic timelines. From what everyone's sharing, it sounds like 1-2 weeks after ID verification is pretty typical, with some cases taking up to 4 weeks. The hardest part is not knowing if there are any hidden issues or if it's just normal processing time. I've been checking my account obsessively but trying to remind myself that these things just take time to work through the system. Hoping we all see our payments soon!

I'm in the exact same boat! Just completed ID verification on Monday and seeing "adjudication in progress" too. The obsessive account checking is so real - I've been refreshing multiple times a day hoping to see a change. It's helpful to see all these timelines from everyone. Sounds like we're both in that normal 1-2 week window, so hopefully we'll see movement soon. The uncertainty is definitely the worst part when you're counting on this money. Thanks for sharing your experience - nice to know I'm not alone in this waiting game!

I just went through this whole process last month and wanted to share my timeline to help give you some perspective. After completing ID verification, it took exactly 14 days before my claim status changed from "adjudication in progress" to showing actual payment amounts. Then the money hit my direct deposit account 2 days after that. The waiting period after ID verification is totally normal - they're doing a comprehensive review of your work history, the reason you became unemployed, and making sure all your weekly certifications are valid. I know it's incredibly stressful when you need the money, but based on your timeline (completed verification last Tuesday), you're right in that typical 1-2 week window. Keep certifying your weekly claims even though they show $0 - those will all get paid retroactively once your claim is approved. Hang in there!

This is exactly the kind of detailed timeline I needed to see! 14 days post-ID verification to status change, then 2 more days for the actual deposit - that gives me a really clear picture of what to expect. I'm at day 10 since completing verification, so knowing I'm in that normal window is such a relief. I've been continuing to certify weekly even with the $0 amounts showing, so good to know that's the right approach and they'll all get processed together. The comprehensive review part makes sense too - better they take time to get it right than rush and create more issues. Thanks for breaking down your exact timeline, it's incredibly helpful for managing expectations!

I'm currently in a very similar situation and wanted to share what I've learned from calling around and talking to other people going through this. After ID verification is complete, the "adjudication in progress" status typically means they're doing a final eligibility review - checking your work history, separation reason, and making sure all your weekly certifications are valid. From what I've gathered, the timeline is really inconsistent but most people seem to see their first payment 10-21 days after completing ID verification. I completed mine 2 weeks ago and just yesterday my status finally changed to show actual payment amounts instead of $0. The money should hit my account in the next few days. One thing that helped me was setting up text alerts through the NY.gov system so I get notified immediately when there's any status change rather than constantly checking manually. The waiting is absolutely brutal when you're behind on bills, but it does seem like most claims do eventually process. Keep certifying weekly even though it shows $0 - you'll get all those back payments at once when it finally goes through.

This is super helpful - thanks for sharing your experience and timeline! The 2-week mark to seeing actual payment amounts gives me hope since I'm getting close to that point. Setting up text alerts is a great tip that I hadn't thought of - I'll definitely do that today to save myself from all the manual checking. It's encouraging to hear from someone who just went through the exact same process and is finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. The 10-21 day range seems pretty consistent with what others have shared too. Congrats on finally getting your status change - hopefully you'll have your money in hand soon!

I'm going through this exact same timeline right now! Completed ID verification last Thursday (so about a week ago) and have been stuck on "adjudication in progress" ever since. Reading through everyone's experiences here is really reassuring - sounds like the 1-3 week wait after ID verification is pretty standard. The most frustrating part is not knowing if there's an issue or if it's just normal processing time. I've been continuing to certify weekly even though everything shows $0, and I set up the text alerts someone mentioned to avoid obsessively checking my account. Based on all the timelines shared here, it sounds like we should both see movement in the next week or so. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - it really helps to know this waiting period is normal and that the back payments do eventually come through!

I'm in almost the exact same timeline as you! Completed my ID verification last Wednesday (so about 8 days ago) and also stuck on "adjudication in progress" with all my weekly claims showing $0. It's such a relief to read through all these experiences and see that the 1-3 week wait is totally normal. I was starting to worry there was some hidden issue with my claim, but it sounds like this is just how long the system takes to do their final review. The text alerts tip is genius - I've been driving myself crazy checking the portal multiple times a day. Based on everyone's timelines here, hopefully we'll both see some movement soon! It's comforting to know we're not alone in this waiting game and that the back payments do eventually come through.

I'm dealing with the exact same situation right now - completed ID verification 6 days ago and still showing "adjudication in progress" with $0 weekly claims. Reading through everyone's timelines here is incredibly helpful and reassuring. It sounds like the 10-21 day range after ID verification is pretty typical, with most people seeing their status change around the 2-week mark. The hardest part is definitely not knowing if it's normal processing or if there's some issue lurking. I've been continuing to certify weekly and just set up those text alerts someone mentioned to stop myself from constantly refreshing the portal. Based on all these shared experiences, it seems like patience is really the only option, but at least we know the system does eventually work and those back payments will be worth the wait. Thanks to everyone for sharing their timelines - it makes this stressful process feel much more manageable knowing we're all in this together!

I just joined this community and I'm so glad I found this thread! I completed my ID verification with NYS Department of Labor on Monday (so 4 days ago) and have been panicking about the "adjudication in progress" status with all my weekly claims showing $0. Reading everyone's detailed timelines here is such a huge relief - I was convinced something was wrong with my claim, but it sounds like this 1-3 week waiting period after ID verification is completely normal. The consistency in everyone's experiences (most seeing changes around the 2-week mark) gives me so much peace of mind. I'm definitely going to set up those text alerts and stop obsessively checking my account 10 times a day. Thank you all for sharing your stories - it's amazing how much less stressful this process feels when you know others are going through the exact same thing and that it does eventually work out!
