How do I check my unemployment status online through NYS Department of Labor?
I submitted my unemployment application about a week ago and I'm trying to figure out how to check my unemployment status online. I keep hearing about different websites and I'm not sure which one is the official one for checking claim status. Can someone walk me through the steps? I tried googling but there are so many different sites that pop up and I don't want to accidentally give my info to the wrong place.

You need to go to my.ny.gov and log into your account there. That's the official NYS Department of Labor portal. Once you're logged in, you should see your claim status under the unemployment benefits section. Your status will show things like 'pending', 'adjudication in progress', or 'approved' depending on where your claim is in the process.

•Thanks! I found my.ny.gov but when I click on unemployment it asks me to create a new account even though I already filed. Is that normal?

Make sure you're using the same login credentials you used when you first filed your claim. Sometimes people accidentally create multiple accounts which causes confusion. If you're still having trouble accessing your existing account, you might need to use the account recovery option instead of creating a new one.

•That makes sense, I might have used a different email. Let me try the account recovery thing.

If you're having trouble getting through to check your status or need to speak with someone about your claim, I had good luck using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get connected to an actual NYS Department of Labor agent. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Way easier than trying to call the regular number and getting busy signals all day.

•Never heard of that service before. Does it actually work better than just calling directly?

•Yeah it worked for me when I needed to ask about why my claim was stuck in adjudication. Saved me hours of trying to get through on my own.

Once you get logged in properly, you should also be able to see your payment history and when your next weekly claim is due. The system updates pretty regularly so you can track any changes to your status.
