Do I need to resubmit direct deposit info for my new NY unemployment claim?
I just filed a new unemployment claim with NY DOL yesterday after my seasonal job ended. My question is - do I need to re-enter my direct deposit information again? I had unemployment last winter and used direct deposit, but I can't remember if that information carries over to a new claim or if I have to set it up again each time. Anyone know the answer? I don't want to miss my first payment because I forgot to set up the direct deposit info!

Your direct deposit info should be saved in the system if you used the same NY.gov ID account that you used before. But it's still a good idea to go to the payment method section and verify it's all there correctly. I've had unemployment twice in the past three years and didn't need to re-enter my bank info the second time.

UR SUPPOSED to check it anyway. I thought mine was saved from last time & ended up with a debit card when I wanted direct deposit!! Such a pain to fix & missed $ for 2 weeks

•Oh no! That's exactly what I'm worried about. Did you have to call them to fix it or could you change it online?

In my experience (filed new claim last month), your direct deposit details are likely saved in the system but you ABSOLUTELY need to verify they're there and accurate. When I logged into my account, I noticed the system had my old bank account that I closed last year! I was able to update it easily in the payment preferences section. Here's what to do: 1. Log into your NY.gov account 2. Go to "My Online Services" 3. Select your unemployment insurance claim 4. Click on "Update Your Personal Information" 5. Select "Update Payment Type" 6. Verify your bank info is correct or enter new information Doing this before your first payment processes will save you a lot of headaches!

•Thank you SO MUCH for these detailed steps! This is exactly what I needed. I'll check this as soon as I finish my groceries today.

I think they keep the info but my cousin got a check instead of direct deposit on her first payment even tho she had direct deposit before, maybe its a glitch in there system?

•That could happen if the system reset her payment preferences. Sometimes after significant updates to the system, payment settings revert to the default (which is debit card or check). Another reason to always verify your settings when filing a new claim.

The NY DOL system is SUPPOSED to retain your payment information, but I've seen SO many cases where it mysteriously "forgets" people's direct deposit details!! The system is BROKEN and understaffed. My advice? SCREENSHOT everything after you verify your bank details are correct. And if you don't see your payment hit your account within 3 business days of certifying, CALL IMMEDIATELY!!! I waited 6 WEEKS last time because I assumed the money was coming but my direct deposit had somehow gotten deleted from their system!!!

•Oh wow, that's concerning. Taking screenshots is a smart idea. I'll definitely do that. 6 weeks without payment sounds like a nightmare!

After dealing with this exact issue myself, I highly recommend trying to get confirmation from an actual agent. The online system shows your info is there, but sometimes it doesn't process correctly on the backend. I ended up using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an agent quickly instead of waiting for hours. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE that shows how it works. The agent was able to confirm my direct deposit was properly set up in just a few minutes. Saved me so much stress wondering if my payment would arrive correctly.

•I've never heard of Claimyr before. Did it actually work to get you through faster? The wait times to speak with someone are ridiculous.

•Yes, it actually worked! Instead of waiting on hold for 3+ hours (which I tried twice before), I got through in about 10 minutes. The agent confirmed everything was set up correctly in my account. Definitely worth it for peace of mind.

actually no one giving the right answer here. if u had a claim before and getting a new one its diff than if ur doin ur FIRST claim ever. for new claims after having 1 before, the direct deposit stuff stays in the system FOR 3 YEARS but u still gotta check it. if it's ur first time ever then obvs u gotta put in the info.

•You're partially correct, but the 3-year timeframe isn't a hard rule. The system is supposed to retain payment information within the NY.gov account regardless of timeframe, but system updates and technical issues can cause information to be lost. The bottom line is that everyone should verify their payment information when filing a new claim, regardless of when their last claim was.

I just went through this in January! My direct deposit info from 2023 was still there, but I still had to click "confirm" on the payment method screen for it to activate for my new claim. Easy to miss that step!

I checked my account and found my banking info was still there but it wasn't activated for my new claim! Thank you all so much - especially to the person who gave the detailed steps. I had to click "confirm" like someone mentioned, even though all my information was already in the system. Really appreciate everyone's help!

•Glad you got it sorted out! That confirmation step trips up a lot of people. Make sure you complete your weekly certifications on time too!
