Current percent of unemployment in America - how does this affect NYS Department of Labor claim processing?
I've been hearing different numbers about the national unemployment rate lately and wondering how this impacts things here in New York. My claim has been in adjudication for over a month now and I'm trying to understand if high unemployment rates mean longer processing times at NYS Department of Labor. Does anyone know what the current percent of unemployment is nationwide and if that affects how quickly they process our weekly claims? I'm getting stressed because my savings are running low and I can't get through to anyone on the phone.

The national unemployment rate is currently around 3.7% as of the latest Bureau of Labor Statistics report, which is actually considered relatively low historically. However, this doesn't directly impact NYS Department of Labor processing times - those delays are more about staffing levels and the complexity of individual cases. Adjudication can take 4-6 weeks regardless of the overall unemployment rate. Have you checked your my.ny.gov account for any pending issues that might be holding up your claim?

•Thanks for the info! I checked my account and there's nothing showing that needs action from me. It just says 'adjudication in progress' with no other details. 4-6 weeks seems like forever when you're not getting paid.

3.7% sounds about right but honestly the numbers don't mean much when you're the one without a job! My claim took 5 weeks to get approved last year and that was when unemployment was supposedly lower. NYS Department of Labor just moves at their own pace no matter what's happening nationally.

•If you're having trouble reaching NYS Department of Labor by phone, I had success using a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me get through to an actual agent. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Might be worth checking out if you need to speak with someone about your adjudication status.

wait so if unemployment is only 3.7% why is it so hard to find work right now?? this doesn't make sense to me

•The unemployment rate only counts people actively looking for work, not those who've given up searching or are underemployed. Also varies significantly by industry and region within New York state.

I've been dealing with NYS Department of Labor for 3 months now and honestly the national unemployment rate is the LEAST of their concerns. They're understaffed, their computer systems are ancient, and they don't care how long you wait. 3.7% unemployment means nothing when the agency processing your claim is dysfunctional!

•I feel you on the frustration but try to hang in there. Most claims do eventually get processed even if it takes longer than it should.
