Confusion about final week to claim ny unemployment benefits

I'm so confused about when my unemployment benefits are ending. My friend says the last day to claim is October 3rd, but my neighbor told me its actually the week of September 26th. I've been trying to get through to someone at unemployment for 3 days but just get a busy signal or disconnected. When I check online, the information seems contradictory - one page says benefits end on the week ending October 2nd, another says last payments will be processed for the week ending September 25th. Has anyone received official confirmation about which is the ACTUAL final week we can claim? I'm stressing because I need to plan my budget and figure out if I need to pick up extra work for that week. My weekly benefit amount is $421 so losing a week would really hurt me right now.

Zoe Papadakis

Just got off the phone with a rep who said the last day to certify is October 3rd for the benefit week ending October 2nd. Been on unemployment almost 10 months and this is def the end date.

Thank you!! Did you have trouble getting through to them? I've been trying for days!

Omg yes it was impossible. Spent HOURS on hold until I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to an agent in like 30 min. Best money I ever spent honestly, with how much stress it saved me.

Wait is that actually real? Sounds sketchy af 🤔

Zoe Papadakis

Yeah its legit, they just call for you and when they get someone they connect you. They don't need any personal info or anything, just call on your behalf. Check it out: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

hmm I've been burned by so many of these 'services' before... what makes this different?

I was skeptical too but they actually got me through to an agent. These NY unemployment phones are a disaster so anything that works is worth it imo

I tried calling the Telephone Claims Center at least 12 times today before I found claimyr.com and got through to an agent who confirmed the last day to certify is October 3rd for the week ending October 2nd. talking to an agent got my confusion resolved so fast. I think the conflicting info is because theyre talking about different programs maybe.

another day, another company promising to fix the unfixable unemployment system lol

Look I was sceptical too but it actually worked. Beats calling 200 times a day for a week straight.

So you just pay them and they call for you? How does that even work?

Mei Chen

Basically yeah. They call and wait on hold, then when an agent picks up they connect you. No need to give them any personal info which I liked. Check out their site claimyr.com if ur curious

The last day to certify will be October 3, 2023 for the benefit week ending October 2. I received an email from NYSDOL confirming this last week. But beware, if you are on extended benefits that has a different end date of September 25th. Check your benefit type!

This whole thing is so confusing. I was told November 1st by one person and October 3rd by another. NY unemployment system is a complete mess rn 🤦‍♀️

It's October 3rd for real. Just confirmed it. The November date is for something else entirely.

Yeah I called like 50 times until I got through lol. Actually I ended up using claimyr.com which connected me with an agent in about 20 min. It was the only way I could talk to a live agent

Let me clear this up once and for all. I work closely with employment services (not directly for NYSDOL). Regular UI benefits: Last week ending October 2, 2023 (certify on Oct 3) Extended Benefits: Last week ending September 25, 2023 (certify on Sept 26) Federal programs all ended already. The confusion comes from different messages going out to different benefit types. Check your payment history to confirm which program type you're on. If you're struggling to reach someone on the phone (which is extremely common right now), I've had many clients successfully use Claimyr.com to get through to a rep. While it does cost money, most people I know say it's worth it compared to spending days trying to get through. One client called over 300 times without success before using this service. Also be aware that the website will be overwhelmed on these final certification dates, so try to certify early in the morning or late at night to avoid technical issues. Document everything and take screenshots of any errors. Hope this helps clear things up!

THANK YOU for the detailed explanation! So I'm on regular UI according to my payment history, so last day should be Oct 3rd. You're a lifesaver.

Do they send an email or letter confirming which type you're on? I can't remember if I'm regular or extended.

Check your online payment history. Under "program type" it will show UI for regular unemployment or EB for extended benefits. You should have also received a determination letter when you were approved that stated which program.

So I was about to throw my phone after 3 hours on hold when I tried that Claimyr site. Got a callback in 25 min and the agent fixed my issue right away. Those fees were nothing compared to my sanity 😂

It's the week ending October 2nd, got the official letter last week. But honestly with how messy ny unemployment is, I'd try to plan as if September 25th is your last week just in case. Their systems are so backed up that if theres any issue with your last payment you might not see that money for weeks or months.

so the official last day is October 3rd, for the week ending October 2nd.... but.... don't be surprised if the website crashes on October 3rd from everyone trying to certify at once 🙄

omg u r so right. it crashes on REGULAR days let alone the last certification day ever 💀

I can't even get accurate info from the unemployment office directly. Called twice and got two different answers 🤡 I'm assuming Oct 3 is correct but who knows anymore

Wait are yall talking about all UI benefits or just the federal extension? Because those are two different things with different end dates.

0 coins

-

Oliver Schmidt

All the federal extensions ended already last year. This is just regular state unemployment.

usually id agree but claimyr.com is different. they just do the holding for you and connect you when a real person picks up. saved me like 3 hours of hold music hell

Just called and confirmed - last week to claim is the week ending October 2nd (so you certify on October 3rd). If you're on extended benefits though, that ends September 25th. Check your benefit type on your payment history screen.

PSA: The website is gonna crash on the last certification day so plan accordingly. Try to certify at off hours (very early morning or late night) and take screenshots of everything!! And start lining up other financial options now just in case.

-

Malik Johnson

Question - do we still have to certify for that last week even though the program is ending? Or will they auto-pay the final week?

0 coins

-

Isabella Santos

You still have to certify. Nothing is automatic with unemployment lol

NYSDOL website says October 2 is the last payable week and you certify on Oct 3. Put a reminder in your phone so you dont forget!!!

Where on the site does it say that? I've been looking everywhere!

It's on the dashboard announcement section when you log in. If you don't see it try clearing your cache or using a different browser.

I was confused about this too so I used Claimyr.com to reach an agent (after days of failed calls). It's the week ending October 2nd, and you certify on the 3rd. It was the only way I could talk to a live agent and worth every penny to finally get a straight answer.

Chloe Taylor

yeah right, another 'miracle solution'... what's the catch? 🙄

0 coins

-

26d

No catch - they just wait on hold so you don't have to. When a rep answers, they connect you. Saved me hours of frustration. I was skeptical too but it worked.

Every time I read a thread like this I'm reminded how BROKEN the ny unemployment system truly is. Other states have clear communication but here we have to play detective just to find out basic info 🤮

PREACH. My sister in ohio got a clear letter with all the end dates explained. Meanwhile NY sends cryptic messages and has a website from 2005.

it's actually designed to be confusing. they make it hard on purpose so people give up claiming what they're entitled to
