Anyone else struggling to deposit NY unemployment tourism relief checks?

Yeah I had the same problem with mine. TD Bank was giving me a hard time about it. Try cashing it at the issuing bank - should be printed on the check itself. That's what I ended up doing and it worked fine. The regular banks are just being extra cautious with these tourism checks for some reason.

I was having the worst time trying to get through to anyone about these tourism relief checks. Had the same issue!! My credit union said the routing number was "unusual" and put a 10-day hold on it. I'd try a check cashing place if you need the money immediately. They'll take a percentage but at least you'll get most of your money now.

I mobile deposited mine through Chase app and it went through fine, but took like 4 business days to clear instead of the usual 1 day. Might be worth trying mobile deposit if your bank offers it?

The tourism checks are printed on different stock with different security features than regular unemployment checks. This is a KNOWN ISSUE that NYSDOL hasn't bothered to communicate properly to banks. 🤬 Here's what worked for me: 1) Go to the bank (not credit union) where you have your account 2) Ask to speak with a manager - don't waste time with tellers 3) Explain that this is a special tourism relief check issued by NY state unemployment 4) Have them call the verification number on the back of the check 5) If they still give you problems, ask them to place a longer hold if necessary but to please accept the deposit Alternatively, you can try Walmart money center or grocery stores that cash checks, but they'll take a fee. I've been helping people navigate ny unemployment problems for months now. If you need to speak to someone at unemployment about this (or any issue), don't waste days on hold. I recommend using claimyr.com - they'll wait on hold for you and connect you with an agent. When your finances are at stake, it's worth getting through to a real person who can help.

i went to the check cashing spot on 7th ave and they took it no problem. charged me like 3% but whatever, i needed the money now not in 10 days 🤷‍♂️

Call NYSDOL directly about this. Had to do this myself last week. The tourism checks can be replaced with direct deposit if you have too much trouble cashing them. But you gotta talk to an actual person there.

This is why I always select direct deposit instead of paper checks. Always some kind of problem with the physical checks 🙄

the tourism relief isnt even a real unemployment check, its a stimulus thing that NYSDOL is just administering. thats why it looks different and banks are confused. If you look at the fine print its coming from the tourism recovery fund not regular unemployment insurance.
