Any updates on when ny unemployment tourism recovery payments are coming?
I worked as a tour guide in NYC for almost 6 years before everything shut down in April 2022. Our company had to let go of nearly 80% of staff because tourism completely dried up. I applied for the Tourism Recovery Grant back in September when they announced it, and my application was approved in October. The confirmation email said payments would start going out in "early 2023" but it's now February and I haven't received anything. The status on my account just says "payment pending" for the past 3 months. I've tried calling the tourism recovery hotline like 30 times but either get disconnected or sit on hold for hours. Has anyone actually received their payment yet? My rent just went up $250 and I was really counting on this money. The website still says all approved applicants will receive $3,800 but gives no timeline anymore.

OMG same boat! Approved in early November and stil waiting. The tourism recovery office is impossible to get thru to. I check my mailbox every day like an idiot. Called again yesterday and waited 2 hrs before hanging up. starting to wonder if this is ever happening or if they just ran out of money π€

β’So frustrating! Did u ever get an actual date for when payments are supposed to go out? My confirmation just said "early 2023" which is super vague

β’nope, just the same vague "early 2023" BS. I did finally talk to someone last week who said they were "processing payments in batches" but couldn't tell me which batch I was in or when it would be sent π€‘

β’They always say "processing in batches" for EVERYTHING. Its their goto excuse for everything taking forever. classic ny unemployment nonsense

After weeks of getting nowhere with the tourism recovery line, I tried a different approach. Found this service called claimyr.com that got me through to a real unemployment agent. Worth every penny - they got me a callback within 45 mins and the agent was able to check my tourism recovery status. Turns out my address was entered wrong which was delaying my payment. Fixed it on the spot and my check arrived last week! Check them out: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

β’Is this for real? Seems too good to be true after all the hours I've wasted trying to get through...

β’100% real. I was skeptical too but was desperate after trying for weeks. The callback came while I was grocery shopping and the agent stayed on til everything was fixed. best decision ever

β’another spam service trying to profit off desperate people π why would anyone pay for something the govt should provide for free?

β’i actually tried this last week and it worked. was shocked when my phone rang and it was a real person from unemployment. way better than listening to that awful hold music for 3 hours

I got mine last week after 4 months of waiting! They're definitely sending them out but super slowly. My friend who applied the same day as me hasn't gotten his yet. Seems totally random π€·ββοΈ

The tourism recovery program is underfunded and understaffed like everything else with ny unemployment. I work for a hotel that had to lay off 200+ people and only about 25% of my coworkers have gotten their grants so far. The rest of us are still waiting with zero communication. Classic nysdol...

β’thats exactly what i heard from a agent when i finally got through. they only have like 12 people processing thousands of applications. such a joke

So after 6 calls nd 14+ hours on hold over 3 weeks, I FINALLY got someone on the phone yesterday. They said batches of payments are going out weekly based on application date and last name. My batch is supposedly going out "next week" but they've told me that twice already so not getting my hopes up.

β’Did they at least tell you which batch you're in or give you a tracking number? I can't even get that much info!

Diego Fisher
β’nope! just "you're in a batch scheduled for next week" with no specifics. super helpful right? π

I've been dealing with NY unemployment systems for years through multiple jobs in the tourism sector, and this tourism recovery grant is honestly following the exact same pattern as every other program they run. Initial announcements make it sound quick and efficient, then reality hits with understaffing and technical issues. For anyone still waiting, here's what I've learned: 1. Keep checking your application status online daily - sometimes it updates without notification 2. Make sure your mailing address is 100% correct - even small errors can delay or void your payment 3. If you need to speak with a human (which you probably do by now), stop wasting hours on hold. I used claimyr.com after 3 coworkers recommended it. They call for you and connect you with an agent when they pick up. Totally worth it. 4. When you do get through, ask specifically about any issues with your application. Many payments are held up by small administrative flags that agents can clear in minutes once they see them. 5. Document everything! Write down who you spoke with, when, and what they told you. Hope this helps someone - this program has been a nightmare but the money does eventually come through if you're persistent.

β’Tried that claimyr site and got a callback in 30 mins! Agent told me my payment was approved but stuck in their system. She pushed it through while I was on the call. THANK YOU for this tip!!

Just got off the phone with the tourism helpline (after a 2.5 hour wait). They said payments for applications approved in October-November should be issued by end of February, December approvals by mid-March. Whether that actually happens is anyone's guess...

β’I'll believe it when I see the check in my mailbox lol. They told me "two weeks" back in January

has anyone else noticed their application status changed from "payment pending" to "payment processing" recently? mine updated yesterday after being stuck for months. no idea what it actually means tho

Check ur bank account not just the mail! My brother got his tourism recovery payment as direct deposit even though the website said it would be a check. No notification or anything, just showed up in his account randomly.

β’wait WHAT? they're doing direct deposits too? the email specifically said checks would be mailed...

β’yup! if u had direct deposit set up from previous unemployment benefits they might use that. NY unemployment and consistent communication name a less iconic duo lmao

I work at a restaurant that catered to tourists and was approved in September. Just got my check yesterday ($3,800 exactly as promised). Keep the faith everyone!!

Anyone else notice they reduced the amount? My approval letter said $3,800 but when I finally got someone on the phone they said it was reduced to $3,200 due to "funding constraints" which feels illegal...

β’wait WHAT?? They can't just change the approved amount! That has to be illegal

β’I got my full $3,800 last week so that doesn't sound right. I'd call again and speak to a different agent

FYI for anyone still waiting - the Tourism Recovery website just updated today saying all remaining payments will be issued by March 31. Whether that's true or not... π€·ββοΈ

This whole program has been managed so poorly. I finally got someone on the phone yesterday after using claimyr.com (which was surprisingly effective btw) and they told me there's a huge backlog because they only have 8 people processing all tourism recovery applications for the entire state. EIGHT PEOPLE! No wonder it's taking forever.

β’only 8 people?! that's insane considering how many thousands of tourism workers lost their jobs

β’classic NY - announce a big program then completely understaff it so it barely functions

I've called the tourism recovery line 47 times in the last month. FORTY-SEVEN. Not once has anyone picked up within 2 hours. This system is completely broken.
