NY unemployment tourism recovery fund check delayed - approved but not received?
I got approved for the NY tourism recovery unemployment fund back in February 2025 but still haven't received my check yet. The approval letter said I should get it in 4-6 weeks, and it's been almost 12 weeks now! My coworker who applied after me already got theirs last month. Has anyone else been waiting forever for this tourism recovery money? The approval status on my account still shows as 'payment pending' when I check online. Should I be worried or is this normal with how slow NYSDOL has been lately?

yeah mine took FOREVER too, I finally got it last week after waiting almost 10 weeks. apparently there's a huge backlog with these tourism recovery payments specifically. keep checking your payment history page for updates not just the main status page

•Thanks! Did you have to call them or anything to get it moving? Or it just randomly showed up one day?

The Tourism Recovery Fund payments are experiencing significant delays this quarter. I spoke with a representative last week and learned they're processing in batches based on employer industry codes, not application dates. That's why your coworker might have received payment despite applying later. A few things to check: 1. Verify your mailing address is current on your account 2. Check that your direct deposit information is up-to-date if you selected that option 3. Look specifically in the "Special Program Payments" section of your payment history, not the regular UI payment history If it shows "payment pending" for more than 12 weeks, you should definitely contact them directly.

•Thank you for the detailed info! I didn't even know there was a separate "Special Program Payments" section... just checked and mine says "payment processed" with yesterday's date but nothing in my bank account yet. At least it's moving!

I was in the same boat waiting for my tourism recovery check. Calling them was IMPOSSIBLE through the regular number - busy signals for days. I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an actual person in about 20 minutes. They told me my payment was held up because of a flag on my account from an old claim. The agent fixed it on the spot and my payment showed up 3 days later. There's a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE if you're interested. Saved me weeks of waiting and frustration.

•Yeah it's legit - just saves you from spending hours redialing. They don't handle any of your claim info, just connect you to an actual NYSDOL agent. Worth it for me because I was losing my mind trying to get through the regular way.

SAME EXACT THING happened to me!!! Approved in January and didn't get paid until APRIL!!!! The system is completely broken. They never answer phones, never respond to messages, and expect us to just wait while bills pile up. RIDICULOUS how they treat us when we worked in tourism and got hit hardest by everything!

•Did you ever figure out why it took so long? Was there something wrong with your claim or just the usual NYSDOL delays?

•Just typical NYSDOL NONSENSE! When I finally got through they said something about "additional verification required" but nobody ever told me! They just let it sit there for months!!

I work at a hotel and about half our staff who applied for the tourism recovery fund have received their checks while the rest are still waiting. I noticed everyone who had even minor issues with prior unemployment claims (like reporting errors or missing certifications) seem to be in the delayed group. Might be worth checking if you had any previous issues with regular unemployment.

•That's a really good point... I did have a small overpayment issue last year that I paid back. I bet that's why mine is taking longer. Makes sense now.

There are specific steps to take when your Tourism Recovery Fund payment is delayed beyond 8 weeks: 1. First, check your payment status in the Special Program Payments section 2. If it says "pending" for more than 8 weeks, you should submit a payment inquiry through your online account 3. Use the specific inquiry reason "Special Program Payment Delay" 4. Include your approval date and confirmation number in your message 5. If you don't get a response within 10 business days, then you should call The Tourism Recovery Fund has specific processing protocols that differ from regular unemployment benefits. Many payments are being released in batches at the end of each month, so sometimes waiting until the next month-end can resolve it automatically.

•Good to know! I'll keep an eye out for that too. Would much rather have direct deposit but at this point I'll take anything.

Just saw a notice on the NYSDOL website that they're processing a large batch of tourism recovery payments this Friday. Maybe yours will be in that group!

•Oh that would be amazing! Where on the website did you see that? I keep checking the main page but don't see any announcements.

•It's in the "News and Updates" section at the very bottom of the homepage. They don't make it easy to find! There's a whole update about the Tourism Recovery Fund processing schedule.

UPDATE: I got my payment! It finally came through as direct deposit this morning. For anyone else waiting, definitely check the Special Program Payments section like people suggested here, and consider submitting that payment inquiry if it's been over 8 weeks. Thanks everyone for your help!

•Great news! Glad it worked out. For others reading this thread in the future, remember that tourism recovery payments typically process within 6-8 weeks but can take up to 12 weeks during high-volume periods.
