If you're having trouble getting through to NYS Department of Labor to verify your benefit calculation, I had good luck using Claimyr (claimyr.com). They help you get connected to actual agents without waiting on hold forever. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Really helped when I needed to understand why my benefit amount seemed wrong.
The whole system is rigged anyway!!! They calculate it to give you as LITTLE as possible while making the rules so complicated nobody understands them. I've been fighting with NYS Department of Labor for months over my benefit amount and they keep giving me different explanations every time I call.
The whole system is so frustrating!! I've been dealing with unemployment for months and nobody can give me a straight answer about who's actually making these decisions. Sometimes I think they just throw darts at a board to decide who gets benefits and who doesn't. The adjudicators probably don't even read the cases properly.
Ugh the whole system is so stressful! I've been trying to get through to NYS Department of Labor for weeks about my claim and their phone lines are always busy. When I finally got connected last month, they hung up on me after being on hold for 2 hours. Someone told me about this service called Claimyr that helps you get through to the agents - you can check it out at claimyr.com and they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI. I haven't tried it yet but I'm getting desperate to talk to someone about my adjudication.
The appeal process is intentionally slow to discourage people from challenging their decisions. It's ridiculous that they can cut off your income and then make you wait months to get it resolved. Meanwhile they're sitting on millions in unused funds.

Just to clarify - unemployment insurance in NY was actually established in 1935 as part of the Social Security Act, but I think you're asking about your personal claim timeline rather than the historical origins of the program! Your benefit year runs for 52 weeks from your effective date, and you can collect up to 26 weeks of benefits during that period.

•Haha yes I meant my claim specifically, not the whole system! Good to know about the 26 week limit though.

Keep doing your weekly claims even during adjudication! If they approve your claim retroactively you'll get paid for all those weeks you certified for. Don't skip any weeks or you'll lose those benefits permanently.
