Before panicking, try logging out completely and logging back in. Sometimes the portal has display glitches. If it still shows disqualified, you'll need to call or request a hearing if no resolution through phone contact.
I'm going through the exact same thing right now! Been collecting for about 2 months with no problems, then boom - disqualified out of nowhere this week. Like you, I can't find any explanation in my account and I didn't change anything about my job search or availability. It's so stressful not knowing what triggered it. I'm going to try the logout/login suggestion and then start calling tomorrow morning. Keep us posted on what you find out - maybe we can help each other figure this out.
@Lara Woods I'm so relieved to hear I'm not the only one dealing with this! It's terrifying when your benefits just disappear without warning. I tried the logout/login thing that @Makayla Shoemaker suggested but it still shows disqualified. I m'going to start calling first thing tomorrow too - maybe if we both keep trying we can get through faster. This whole system is so broken. Will definitely update here if I learn anything useful!
Just wanted to say good luck with your claim! I filed mine last month and it went pretty smoothly. The online system worked fine and I got approved in about 2 weeks.
Thanks for all the helpful responses! I'm feeling more confident about filing now. It sounds like the actual unemployment rate doesn't really affect individual claims much, which makes sense. I was laid off due to company downsizing so I should meet the "no fault of your own" requirement. Good to know about the 3 work search activities per week - I'll make sure to document everything properly. @Eli Wang, it's encouraging to hear your claim went smoothly recently!
Quick question - when u file ur weekly claim, are u saying YES to being ready, willing and able to work full time? If u say no to any of those, they won't pay u.
Had almost the exact same issue earlier this year - approved but no payments for weeks. In my case, it turned out there was a "pending employer response" that was holding up everything, even though they never told me about it. The employer had 10 days to respond to my claim and apparently their response triggered some kind of review that froze my payments. Only found out when I finally got through to someone on the phone. Keep calling every day if you can - the system won't fix itself and they rarely proactively contact you about issues. Document everything you're reporting in your weekly claims too, just in case. Hope you get it sorted soon!
My brother went through this exact thing and what really helped him was knowing the exact date his benefits would end so he could plan better. Like the other person said, check your my.ny.gov account for your benefit year dates. Also make sure you're doing everything possible with your job search requirements because you don't want any issues in these final weeks.
This whole 26-week thing seems so arbitrary. Like why not 30 weeks or something that gives people more time to find decent work? The job market is still tough in a lot of industries.
I totally agree with you Emma. The 26-week limit was actually established decades ago when the job market was very different. Back then, unemployment was often more cyclical and temporary. Now with industry changes, remote work shifts, and longer hiring processes, it can definitely take longer to find comparable employment. Some states have looked at extending their base periods but it requires legislative changes and funding considerations. It's frustrating when you're doing everything right but the timeline doesn't match reality.

I missed certifying last month when I went to visit my mom in the hospital and didn't realize until Wednesday. Still got paid fine just 3 days late. But make sure you don't forget to answer the work search questions correctly or they might flag your account for review.

•I hope your mom is doing better! And thanks for the reminder about the work search questions - I'll be extra careful with those.

Just to add another data point - I've been on NY unemployment for about 6 months now and I've had to certify late probably 4 or 5 times due to work interviews, family stuff, etc. Every single time I still got my full payment, just delayed by however many days late I was. The longest I waited was when I certified on a Friday and got paid the following Tuesday instead of my usual Wednesday. As long as you're within that Sunday-Saturday window, you're totally fine! Don't stress about it too much.
