To address your follow-up question about benefit amounts: The 3 days of work shouldn't reset or significantly change his benefit amount. NY calculates benefits based on a base period that looks at several quarters of past earnings. A few days of work in 2025 would be a very small part of this calculation.\n\nOne important thing to note: If his previous unemployment claim expired, and he hasn't worked much since then, he may need to use what's called an \
This is actually good advice. I work for a state representative's office (not in NY) and we help constituents with unemployment issues all the time. Legislative offices often have direct contacts with special units at unemployment who can resolve issues faster. Just look up your state assembly member or state senator and call their district office.
Update: I tried calling again today using that Claimyr service someone mentioned and actually got through to a tier 2 specialist! They confirmed that my verification was completed by Homeland Security last week but was sitting in a queue waiting for final review. The specialist manually moved it to the payment processing stage and said I should see funds in 3-5 business days. Also, they're going to include all the backdated payments! Thanks everyone for your help!
anyone else notice how the system always seems to crash right around when benefits are supposed to be paid? feels like its not a coincidence...
Update from my experience: I just called again today (been about 10 days since my last successful call), and it seems like they've added more staff. Only waited about 40 minutes this time. So maybe the situation is improving? Try again with some of the tips shared here - calling right at opening time, being very specific about your issue, etc.
Good news! I FINALLY got through this morning using a combination of tips from this thread. Called exactly at 8:00am, used the general information option instead of claims, and when I got an agent, I was super specific about my issue. Took about 35 minutes total but my problem is now fixed! Thanks everyone for all your help and suggestions.
this happend to my brother in law to. they reduced his days by 8 and he couldnt get anyone on the phone for like 3 weeks. unemployment is such a mess in ny
Update: I finally got through to someone at NYSDOL! After trying that Claimyr service that someone mentioned earlier (which actually worked!), I spoke with an agent who explained everything. Apparently my former employer submitted amended wage reports for Q4 2024 that affected my benefit calculation. The agent said I can dispute this by submitting my W-2 and final paystubs through the document upload section. If anyone else is dealing with this, definitely try to speak with a live person - it made all the difference.
Glad you got it resolved! This is exactly why speaking to an agent is so important. Employers sometimes submit corrected wage information that can affect your benefit calculation. If your documentation proves your original reporting was correct, NYSDOL should adjust your effective days back to the original amount.

UPDATE: I finally got this resolved! I ended up using that Claimyr service that someone mentioned above, and got connected to an agent in about 15 minutes. The agent explained that when DSS had me file a new claim, it created a temporary security hold on my previous claim documents. They removed the hold while I was on the phone, and I was able to access and download my 1099G immediately afterward. For anyone else dealing with this: make sure to explain that DSS directed you to file a new claim. Apparently that's important for them to know when resolving this specific issue. Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions!

•Great to hear you got it resolved! Thanks for updating the thread - this information will help others with similar issues. One thing to remember for future reference: whenever a government agency tells you to take an action that affects unemployment, always ask them specifically how it might impact your access to previous claims or documents. This kind of cross-system issue happens surprisingly often.

The whole system is designed to be frustrating on purpose! They make it hard to talk to anyone hoping people will just give up. Glad you got it fixed but its ridiculous we have to jump through all these hoops for something that should be EASILY ACCESSIBLE!!
