When I had to renew my claim back in March, they also asked me if I had received any severance pay or vacation payout from my last employer. My situation was a bit different though because I had been working part-time for a while before getting laid off again. But yeah, the job search documentation is super important! I actually missed a week of benefits because I couldn't prove I'd been looking for work one week when I was sick.
Update: So did your sister make the call yet? What happened? I'm curious because my brother has to do the same thing next month and I want to prepare him.
She just finished the call! It went WAY better than she expected. Took about 30 minutes total. They mostly just confirmed her information was the same and verified her work search activities (thank you all for the heads up on that - she spent yesterday putting together her records). They told her she'll receive her first payment on the new claim within 7-10 days. Really appreciate everyone's advice here!
My sister had same problem but hers finally came yesterday. She requested on Jan 11th so its taking them like a month+ to send these out. Last year only took like a week! Their system is probably broken again like everything else they do...
UPDATE: Finally received my 1099G yesterday! So it took exactly 4 weeks from request to delivery. I also managed to get through on the phone using the dedicated hotline number that someone mentioned above. The rep said they're extremely backlogged this year because of the system update. Hope yours comes soon!
Technically, all interest income should be reported regardless of the amount. However, the IRS only requires financial institutions to issue 1099-INT forms for interest payments of $10 or more. Since your amount is below that threshold, you likely didn't receive an official form, but it's still legally required to be reported. That said, the tax impact on $8.12 would be extremely minimal - probably less than $2 depending on your tax bracket. The IRS typically has bigger concerns than chasing down a few dollars in tax revenue.
After reading all these comments, I'm gonna just report it and be done with it. Not worth the stress over a few bucks. But I'm definitely remembering this the next time I hear the NY unemployment department talk about how they're "improving services." 🙄 Thanks everyone for the information and commiseration!
This ID verification thing is happening to EVERYONE lately!!! My cousin just went through this last month! They're just trying to slow down payments!!! Make sure you call EVERY DAY until they fix it!!!
While it is happening more frequently, calling every day won't necessarily speed up the process. The verification team is separate from the call center staff. The best approach is to submit clear, legible documents as quickly as possible and then follow up once per week for status updates. Document every call with date, time, and representative name.
UPDATE 2: Just wanted to let everyone know that I finally got this resolved! I submitted my ID documents (driver's license, SS card, and birth certificate) through their portal. It actually only took 8 days for them to verify everything, which was faster than the 2-3 weeks they quoted me. Once verified, I was able to certify for all the weeks I missed. Money should be in my account in 3-5 business days. If anyone else runs into this problem, make sure your documents are clear and that all four corners are visible in the photos/scans!
Great news! Thanks for updating us. This is helpful information for others who might encounter the same issue. The document quality tip is especially important - I've seen many cases where verification was delayed simply because the submitted documents were poor quality or partially cut off.

Has anyone here ever successfully appealed a denial? I'm wondering if that's what I'll need to do next if I can't get through on the phone. Is there a specific form or process for that in NY?

•Yes, you can request a hearing to appeal a denial. You have 30 days from the date on your determination letter to request an appeal. The form is online in your NY.gov account under "Forms and Documents" or you can call and request one. Make sure to have documentation ready that supports your case - pay stubs, employment dates, etc. The hearing is usually done by phone with an administrative law judge.

UPDATE: Finally got through this morning! Called right at 8am and only waited about 25 minutes. The agent said they were using my wrong base period and that I DO qualify! She fixed it right there and said I should see my determination update in 2-3 business days. So relieved! Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions.

•That's great news! This is exactly why speaking to an actual person is so important with these issues. Glad you got it sorted out!
