The NYSDOL system is COMPLETE GARBAGE. They do this ON PURPOSE to confuse people and hope you'll give up on getting your full backpay!!! I had to fight for MONTHS to get what I was owed. They started my backpay then "mysteriously" stopped it too. Don't let them get away with it!!!
While I understand your frustration, the batch processing of backpay is actually a technical limitation of their payment system, not an intentional delay tactic. The system dates back to the 1980s and wasn't designed to handle mass backpay processing.
Update: I just checked my account this morning and another batch of backpay hit my account! Looks like everyone who said to be patient was right. There are still a few weeks missing but I'm guessing those will come in the next batch. Thanks for all the advice!
When I was on NY unemployment last year I also thought the maximum amount was guaranteed, but then my neighbor who works for the state explained that it's just the MAXIMUM possible if you stay unemployed the whole time. Also I wouldn't trust any rumors about extensions unless it comes directly from the NYSDOL website.
Thanks everyone for your help. Sounds like I need to be more realistic about my financial planning and not count on getting the full amount or any extensions. I'm going to ramp up my job search and try to contact DOL directly with any other questions I have. Really appreciate all the advice!
My sister works for NYSDOL and she says they're still dealing with website problems from that big upgrade they did in January. Lots of people having the same issue.
Update: I finally got through to someone on the phone this morning. They confirmed my direct deposit info was successfully added and should apply to my first payment! For anyone else with this issue - keep trying the website first, but if that doesn't work, definitely call them to confirm your payment details are correct.
btw if ur on unemployment and apply for rent help make sure u report it right cuz my cousin got in trouble for not telling unemployment about his rent assistance
Thanks everyone for all your responses! This has been really helpful. I'm going to try calling early tomorrow morning as suggested, and if that doesn't work, I might try that Claimyr service to get through. It's reassuring to know the typical timeline is 6-8 weeks, even though that's longer than I hoped. I'll make sure to remind my landlord about the eviction protections too. Will update if I get any news!

•I'm in Albany and still waiting, but my coworker in Syracuse got hers last week. Both single filers. I doubt it's regional, probably just random batches.

Update for anyone still checking this thread - I called the tax department this morning (waited 45 minutes) and the representative told me they are STILL processing single filer unemployment tax refunds and will be through July. They're prioritizing earlier filers first, but there are apparently over 200,000 eligible returns to process just for singles. So hang in there!

•Thanks for the update! I actually got mine yesterday finally! $1,180 deposited directly to my checking account. Such a relief.
