What does trace number mean on IRS Get My Payment site? Shows 'funded to you' with a number
I checked my refund status on the IRS website yesterday and noticed there's a trace number under 'funded to you' section. Does anyone know what this means? Is this good news? My tax return was filed back in mid-February 2025 and I've been patiently waiting for over 2 months now. The amount shows $1,832 which is what I expected. Just wondering if the trace number means my refund is finally being processed or if I need to contact someone. Thanks in advance!

The trace number is essentially a tracking number for your refund payment. When you see 'funded to you' with a trace number, it means your refund has been approved and is in the process of being sent to you. This is definitely good news! You should expect to receive your refund within 5-7 business days if you selected direct deposit, or 2-3 weeks if you're getting a paper check in the mail. Just wanted to add that you can also check your bank account for any pending deposits - sometimes the money shows up there before the IRS website updates to "refund sent" status.
