What does Code 971 Notice Issued mean on transcript? Getting worried
Just checked my transcript and saw a 971 code with no amount next to it. Anyone know what this means? Getting super worried since I've been waiting on my refund for months now.

A 971 code means the IRS is sending you a notice in the mail. It could be for various reasons - verification request, math error, or just an update on your return processing. Keep an eye on your mailbox, you should receive something within 2 weeks. The no amount is normal for this code.

•It really depends on what the notice is about. Could be something simple or might need more info from you

Hey! Instead of stressing about codes, I've been using taxr.ai to analyze my transcript. It's only $1 and tells you exactly what each code means for YOUR specific situation and when you'll likely get your refund. Way better than playing detective with these codes lol https://taxr.ai

Experienced tax pro here with a detailed breakdown. The 971 code is just one piece of the puzzle. You really need to look at the whole transcript to understand whats happening. Common reasons for 971: - Identity verification needed - Income verification - Dependent verification - Math error corrections - General processing delays Honestly, the best way to know exactly what's happening is to use taxr.ai - it analyzes your whole transcript and gives you a clear timeline. Saves everyone time instead of guessing. I recommend it to all my clients now.

•After verification, usually 2-9 weeks. But every case is different tbh

Same thing happened to me last month! Got the 971 code and was panicking thinking something was wrong. Turns out it was just a simple verification letter asking me to confirm my identity online. Took like 5 minutes to complete and then my refund processed within 3 weeks. Don't stress too much - the majority of 971 notices are routine stuff, not anything serious. Just keep checking your mail and transcript regularly!

•That's really reassuring to hear! How long did it take for the letter to arrive after you saw the 971 code? I'm on day 2 and already checking my mailbox obsessively lol

•Mine took about 6 days to arrive! I was doing the same thing - checking the mailbox multiple times a day 😅 The waiting is definitely the worst part, but try to stay patient. Most of the time these notices are really straightforward to resolve.

I know exactly how you're feeling! I had a 971 code show up on my transcript about 6 months ago and it sent me into a complete panic. Turned out to be nothing major - just needed to verify some W-2 information. The whole thing was resolved in about 3 weeks once I got the letter and responded. The waiting period is absolutely nerve-wracking, but try not to let it consume you. In most cases, these notices are just routine verification steps the IRS uses to make sure everything matches up correctly. Keep an eye on your mailbox over the next week or two, and remember that no news isn't necessarily bad news. You've got this! 💪

•Thank you so much for sharing your experience! This really helps calm my nerves. It's good to know that even when it feels scary, most of these 971 codes are just routine checks. I'll try to be patient and wait for the letter instead of spiraling into worst-case scenarios. Really appreciate you taking the time to reassure us newcomers! 🙏
