I'm attempting to check the status of my amended return (Form 1040-X) through the Where's My Refund tool, but the system appears to be non-operational at present. The page loads initially but fails to proceed beyond the authentication screen. I've attempted multiple browsers and cleared cache as per standard troubleshooting protocols. Can other users confirm if they're experiencing similar access limitations with the WMR portal today? I require this information to determine appropriate next steps regarding my pending amendment.

The IRS WMR tool experiences scheduled maintenance periods typically: • Every Sunday from 12:00 AM to 6:00 AM ET • During peak filing season (we're in it now) • Occasionally for unscheduled system updates • When implementing tax law changes Your amended return status is better checked through the "Where's My Amended Return" tool anyway. Standard processing timeframe for amendments is 16 weeks minimum in 2024.

I had the same issue on April 2nd and April 3rd. The system came back online around 11pm last night for me, but was down again this morning at 8:30am. Might be worth checking again later today.

Ugh, same probs here. WMR's been down for me since last night. Super annoying when ur trying to plan finances. I gave up and tried calling IRS directly - big mistake. Was on hold for 1hr+ before getting disconnected. Then tried Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) and got thru to an agent in ~15min. They confirmed system issues affecting WMR but said transcripts still working. Agent told me my refund's still processing normally despite not showing online. Worth the few bucks to not waste half my day on hold tbh.

According to Internal Revenue Manual 21.2.3.6.2, the WMR tool undergoes regular maintenance cycles. Is anyone able to access their tax transcripts through the online account portal? Per IRS Publication 5344, transcripts should provide more detailed information than WMR regarding the status of your amended return, including transaction codes that indicate processing stage.
