WMR Tool Error Message - 'Information Not Correct' But Phone System Works?
Is anyone else encountering the error message stating 'the information you're entering isn't correct' when attempting to verify refund status via the WMR portal? The interface has been operational for me since approximately March 24th until today. I've triple-verified my input parameters are accurate. Interestingly, when I utilize the automated telephone system, it successfully retrieves my status information, yet the web interface continues to malfunction. This discrepancy seems highly irregular given my amended documentation was accepted without issue previously.

I experienced the exact same issue last week! The WMR site kept rejecting my information with that same error message, but the phone system worked perfectly. In my case, it lasted about 3 days before resolving itself. From what I understand, the IRS performs database maintenance on their web systems that sometimes causes authentication mismatches between their phone and web platforms. The phone system runs on an older, more stable database architecture that doesn't sync in real-time with the web interface during these maintenance periods.

This happens EVERY tax season but seems particularly bad right now! It's like how the DMV website shows one status but their office has different info. You need to act quickly though - sometimes these system mismatches indicate your return is about to update with new information. I'd recommend checking again in exactly 24 hours, as the overnight batch processing might resolve it. If not, you might be looking at a verification hold that only shows up in their internal systems.

Let's be clear about what's happening: The IRS runs multiple database systems that don't always synchronize properly. While you could keep checking manually, tools like https://taxr.ai can monitor your transcript automatically and detect changes that might not show up in WMR. It specifically looks for processing codes that indicate why your refund status might appear differently across systems. I'm not convinced it's necessary for everyone, but for amended returns like yours, it can provide insights into discrepancies between what the phone system says versus the website.

This mismatch between phone and web systems is actually a known issue! š I call it the "IRS split personality disorder." But seriously, it typically happens when your return is transitioning between processing stages. The phone system often receives updates before the web portal, which is why you're getting different results. One thing to check: make sure you're entering your EXACT filing status and refund amount to the penny. The system is incredibly picky - I once entered $2,456 instead of $2,456.00 and got the same error you're seeing. I know how frustrating this can be when you just want to know what's happening with your money.

Has anyone tried calling the actual IRS agents instead of just the automated line? I was having this same problem and couldn't figure out what was going on. Tried for days to get through on the regular number but kept getting disconnected. Finally used Claimyr (https://www.claimyr.com) and actually got connected to a real person in about 15 minutes? They explained that my account had a temporary security flag because I logged in from a new device, which was causing the WMR error but not affecting the phone system. Might be worth checking if something similar is happening with yours?

I had this EXACT issue on April 2nd! The website kept giving me that error about incorrect information, but the phone system worked fine. I was really worried because I needed my refund for some unexpected expenses. On April 5th, I suddenly got access again on the website AND my refund status had updated to approved! Got my direct deposit on April 8th. It seems like sometimes the system locks you out right before updating your status. Hope this means good news is coming your way too!
